Movie Monday: Sin City
Another jump into the past, but this movie is worth checking out! Sin City is one of my favourite movies and absolutely a lot of fun to watch. What I really like about the movie is that the style is very interesting. Everything is pretty much in a grim style, dark and grey, but several colours stand out. For example the yellow bastard, Dwight's red shoes and car. This movie is quite different from most movies I had seen so far, but it's definitely one of the best movies in my opinion!
One movie, three different stories?
In the movie you follow three different stories and the time lines of these stories mix, which might be a bit confusing to some people but it actually does make sense. All three stories are pretty good but my favourite has to be the story with Dwight McCarthy, that one is absolutely fantastic. The story is called the big fat kill and it starts slowly with Dwight. But later a cop is murdered in old town, ruled by the prostitutes, which could cause an all out war between the cops and the prostitutes. So it's up to Dwight to get rid of the body, of course these things don't go as smooth as you would want them. Don't think that the other stories are bad, the hard goodbye and that yellow bastard are also pretty good and there are some interesting characters in those stories as well. What's really interesting about Sin City is that the movie has no real heroes, at least not the type of hero that really stands out as the good guy. The heroes in Sin City are often criminals or people who you wouldn't expect to be a hero. But something happens and it makes these people do some crazy things!
Why should you check out this movie?
Because it's really good! Ok that probably doesn't convince, which is good because you shouldn't believe people that easily. The movie has a lot of violence in it, some parts are really bloody and even disturbing at parts. But that really makes the movie better in my opinion, the movie shows you the hard ugly truth of what goes on in Basin City (aka Sin City). The characters are really interesting, some are disturbing while others are tragic. But nothing stands in their way when they want revenge or just do the right thing. The movie is more than a decade old but that doesn't make it a bad movie, it's still pretty good and definitely worth checking out if you haven't seen it already! The story is good, the characters are interesting and there is no end to the violence. So if you like that then this is the right movie for you!
