What does the Red Dead Redemption 2 teaser trailer show us?
I barely talked about Red Dead Redemption 2 and there was already a trailer, I guess sometimes things go faster than I realize! It's not a very long trailer but it does show us some things you can expect in the game and might even confirm some theories!
Red Dead Redemption 2 is a prequel?
It sure looks that way, because in Red Dead Redemption you're already at the end of the Wild West era so looking at this Red Dead Redemption 2 trailer I can see that things look a bit more wild and less civilized than Red Dead Redemption. Everything looks a bit more new and less worn out, just looking at the general store in the trailer which looks like it just opened. So I think it's safe to assume that Red Dead Redemption 2 is a prequel. More proof that Red Dead Redemption 2 is a prequel you can see in the trailer. For example you see less train tracks, no cars and a lot more buffalo's. This also means that you will most likely meet some familiar faces from Red Dead Redemption, but they're younger now.
Do you play as John Marston again?
You don't get a clear confirmation in the trailer but it's possible that you play as a young John Marston, most likely in this early 20's. Since the title for this game is Red Dead Redemption 2 and not Red Dead something else I think it's safe to assume that you play as John Marston again. But it's quite possible that you play as multiple characters in Red Dead Redemption 2, the same thing that we see in GTA V with three playable characters in story mode. When you see the group of riders it's not easy to see who the riders are but I heard from some people that they recognize Bill Williamson and one of the riders is a woman and she could be Abigail (John's wife in Red Dead Redemption). This is still speculation or perhaps some wishful thinking but it doesn't sound that crazy to me! I would actually like having multiple playable characters, especially if they're interesting characters and are completely different. For example the first playable character is John Marston, then perhaps the second playable character could be Abigail or maybe another woman and the third playable character could be a Native American. I think those would be interesting characters and it's something else than cowboy a, b and c.
There's a different environment?
Not exactly, things still take place in the same area but a bit further to the East. The main focus lies on the heartlands (a new area on the map) which gives the players a new environment (or biome if you want to sound fancy). I also noticed that you don't gut wild animals on the spot but you actually carry them with you on the back of your horse. One of the riders in the gang is actually dual wielding, which looks cool and I hope this is also an option in story mode and multiplayer. From what you hear towards the end of the trailer, I won't spoil what was said, I get the idea you also see how John escapes from his old gang with Abigail. At least if we can assume that both characters are in Red Dead Redemption 2. It remains to be seen if all the speculation and wishful thinking is going to be true, but I can say that I'm excited about Red Dead Redemption 2!
