Prestige mode is just for showing off?

A lot of multiplayer games have a maximum level in multiplayer, but the fun doesn't stop there. When you hit the maximum level in multiplayer you can often go into prestige mode, which means you start back at level one. This probably sounds dumb but a lot of people do this, so does that make them dumb or is there a good reason why they do it?

Prestige gives you more than you think?

It depends which game you play because prestige works often a bit different in every game. It still comes down to you starting over at level one but the things you get with prestige are usually different in each game. Some games give players a gift for reaching the first prestige and they might get other gifts if they reach the next prestige level. This is often a lot of work but some people that really love playing a game have no issues with that, at least that's the idea I'm getting because some of these players reach maximum prestige level in a month if not sooner. But the weirdest thing about prestige focused players is that they don't always do it for the rewards, because some games like Overwatch give you no rewards at all and yet there are people that have reached prestige five times or more and that means they have reached level 100 five or more times which isn't something you do in a week. No this takes a lot of time and when you get no rewards for that then you really have to wonder why they do it.

Prestige is for showing off?

It does feel like it sometimes, maybe that's how I see it but I can't imagine people doing it just for fun. Sure you can enjoy playing a game but for hundreds of hours playing multiplayer when there are several other games out there that you could play, that just doesn't make sense to me. Especially when there is no reward for you reaching maximum prestige level, what motivates someone to go through all that anyway? Well the simple answer is that people like to show off, to let other people know that they reached a high level. But do other people really admire that? I don't think so. A lot of times I hear people talking about someone with a high prestige level and they will just say that this is someone who apparently has no real life outside this game if he or she could spend so much time on the game. Which in a way might actually be true because it does take a long time to reach maximum prestige level, even if you spend your entire day on the game. But I think it's a bit too harsh to say it's just for showing off. I think some people might also want to reach maximum prestige as a personal victory or have made a tradition of it if they also did that in other games in the same game series, for example in CoD games some people want to reach maximum prestige in every CoD game. Does that make them sad? I know some people will say yes but I think we all have our own way of playing. Some people can't play the same game for more than a week and then there are people that can play the same game for a month, we all play games on our own way and we all have our own preferences. Does that make someone sad just because he or she plays differently than you?
