Stealth in games, do we want that?

Looking back at my early days of playing games I must admit that I hated stealth, I really dislike those moments in games when you couldn't be noticed or it would be game over. Even now I can really get annoyed by games that give you an instant game over when you get spotted by an enemy. But stealth isn't as bad as I first thought because it gives you another way to play a game and sometimes it makes things a lot easier. For example in Skyrim you can sneak around and shoot enemies with a bow and kill almost everyone with one shot as long as they don't see you. So stealth is more fun than I first thought, but does that mean we want stealth in all games?

Stealth isn't for everyone?

You could say that, I mean we all can use stealth but it's just not for everyone because stealth requires patience and skill and even if you lack one of the two then it's still going to be an annoying game experience. I'm impatient and I don't think I have that much skill with stealth, so for me stealth has always been something that is purely optional and not something I want to do unless there is an achievement to be earned with stealth. But there are definitely games that make stealth fun, for example in the Metal Gear Solid games it's fun using stealth and it actually makes you want to do your best instead of just rushing in and trying to get kills. I guess some people prefer stealth and others prefer to go loud, it's good when a game offers both options so you can play the game the way you want to play it. For example in Pay Day 2 you can do certain missions in stealth but also go in guns blazing, either way it's fun but one way might be easier than the other because going in guns blazing also means getting a lot of enemies that want to stop you!

Why shouldn't there be stealth in all games?

Would you really like that? I mean seriously like playing a game in a slow pace and wait for the right time to strike. Certain games like Saints Row IV, Gears of War 4 and Borderlands 2 are games where you just want to go in guns blazing. Who likes to sneak around in those games? Maybe some people would like that but certain games are made for loud action and that's fine, because sometimes you need a game where you can unwind as just go crazy. Sneaking around isn't really a way to unwind and it can actually be quite frustrating for some people. So it's good that stealth is often optional and sometimes in some games necessary. But I'm glad that most games don't use stealth or at least keep that to a minimum which is a good thing, because if games would all require stealth to finish them then I doubt I'll be playing a lot of games. Diversity is a good thing and giving people different types of games means you make more people happy instead of just a portion of all the gamers out there.
