Too many achievements in one game?

Achievements are different in each game, no I'm not talking about the names of the achievements but the amount of achievements in a game. Some games have about ten achievements and then there are games that have more than 50 achievements. The question is which is better? To have only a few achievements in a game that are worth a lot or to have a lot of achievements in a game that are worth a lot less. It probably won't surprise you that the answer lies somewhere in the middle.

Too many achievements in a game is a bad thing?

It sounds silly but yes I think it's a bad thing, for example if for every little thing you do you get an achievement (often worth 5 Gamerscore) then you have to ask yourself if that's worth it. Because kill three enemies in a row, revive a team mate, get a double kill with a grenade and melee five enemies to death in one level are all things to do that you can reward people for with an achievement but if you do that for every little thing in a game then you end up with a load of achievements that are hardly worth anything. Isn't it better to have some more solid achievements that are worth more and not that random to get? For example beat the game on normal (worth 30G), find all collectibles (worth 50G), don't die in one level (worth 25G). Not only are these worth more this will often also take some more time and often skill to get them, eventhough collectibles are usually easily found with a walkthrough.

Having only a few achievements in a game is bad as well?

So why not do it differently? Instead of putting 50 achievements in a game lets put 10 or 20 in a game and make those worth a lot more, for example they're worth 50G or 100G a piece. This seems like a good idea until you reach the point where some of those achievements are easy to get and you end up getting only a 200G of the 1000G because some achievements are just too difficult for you to get but since there are only a few achievements in the game there is only a small amount you can earn. I don't know about you but I know that this sucks as well!

So the best solution is somewhere in the middle?

That depends what you mean with that. If you mean a combination then I don't agree with you. Just look at Gears of War 4 achievements, it's a fun game but the achievements are absolutely rubbish. I got more than 30 achievements in that game and yet I only have 250G of the 1000G. That's not right! There's a total of 75 achievements in the game and I'd say that more than 90% of all those achievements are worth hardly anything, most of them are worth 5G or 10G. But then there are two achievements that are worth a lot more, one is worth 100G and the other is worth 200G. But as you can guess these aren't easy to get, not easy at all! So there's a good chance that the majority of all the players that play Gears of War 4 are at least missing out on those two achievements and will never be able to get more than 700G of the 1000G. I don't like that, but unfortunately that's how it is and if you really want to earn more gamerscore then you'll have to either grind the hell out of the game to try and get those two big achievements or go for all the small achievements and try to earn some gamerscore that way. So a combination of the small amount of achievents and the large amount of achievements is probably not a good idea. I think the best idea is to just keep the score of each achievement around the same amount. So if the majority of all the achievements are around 20G then you could earn at least 500G out of 1000G, at least if you do enough stuff to earn those achievements. Maybe I'm just lazy but do you really feel like going for all the small achievements or spend weeks on getting the large achievements? I'd rather do something else with my time! Besides earning achievements should be fun and not feel like you're taking on a job!
