Battlefield 1 (multiplayer)
As much fun as single player can be in the campaign I think most people buy games like Battlefield for multiplayer and I understand why because multiplayer is beautiful! The chaos, the horror, the intense moments and the ferocity you see in these battles (especially in conquest, operations and rush) make it a very interesting game! But how good is multiplayer really? Let's find out!
What's new in multiplayer?
There are two new game modes, operations and war pigeons, that both play quite different. In operations you play through some battles that really happened in World War I, but the outcome is of course in the hands of the players. That doesn't mean that it's boring, far from it because a lot of crazy things happen in operations and just when you think it's over there's another round (you will also switch to other maps if you make it far enough) with even more intense battles. War pigeons is something completely different, there are no vehicles but it's just squads on the ground trying to capture pigeons and then hold them long enough so the person that's holding the pigeon can write a letter and then release the pigeon. Writing the letter goes faster when you're standing still when you hold the pigeon but that also makes you an easier target for the other team that will do their best to kill the person who's holding the pigeon so they can take the pigeon for themselves. But the whole World War I setting is pretty new, sure there are other World War I games but nothing as impressive and intense as Battlefield 1. The weapons, the environments, the vehicles and so much more. It all feels real and that's both impressive but at the same time terrifying when you think of people who actually fought in World War I.
Multiplayer has never been this intense?
I absolutely had that feeling several times in this game. Yesterday I was with my squad in conquest and we were defending a point and two enemy squads had some relentless attacks on us with explosions everywhere and bullets flying around on almost every corner. It was a tough battle but my squad survived and we held the point, now this was just one moment out of a big battle and in one game mode. So you can imagine that if you put all the intense moments in all the battles of all game modes that you got a very impressive and intense game! No matter which class you pick, there is always something to do. As the assault class you focus on doing damage, mostly to vehicles because you can carry a lot of explosives with you and deal out some serious damage even to the biggest and toughest tanks, as the support you supply your team with ammo and you can also assist with repairing vehicles or dealing damage to enemy vehicles or infantry, as the medic you focus on healing and if necessary reviving team mates which can mean the difference between winning and losing in a battle and as the scout you focus on dealing damage from a distance and help spot enemies. Then there are some other classes you get if you enter a vehicle or you're on a horse, for example as a tank driver you can repair your tank but outside your tank you're a bit less impressive with your weapons, the same counts for a pilot. Then there are some special elite classes like the sentry and the flamethrower which make you tougher and you can deal out some sweet damage. What a lot of people don't know is that you can heal these elite classes so with a friendly medic you can do some serious damage to the other team!
This game is too good to be true?
Not everything is good though, there are absolutely things I'm not a big fan of and maybe that's the way it is in a Battlefield game but that doesn't mean that I like it! Something I find very annoying is the fact you can't customize your loadout in the menu, you have to do that during a match which means while you buy new weapons and items for your class you don't participate in the battle which is something I find stupid. Why can't you do this in the menu? If not there then also give acces to customizing your character in a loading screen or after the battle. What I really find annoying in Battlefield 1 are the amount of douchebags that make it their mission to shoot you so many times with their scout, which is pretty much a one shot kill if they hit you in the head or if you were already wounded. The problem is that half of the time you don't even see the scouts and there is very little you can do about that. Sure you can move up in a vehicle or move up as a squad but a good scout will most likely have back up and kill you and your squad before you can even touch him or her. There are also some issues with achievements not unlocking but that got fixed in the update I got yesterday, so hopefully this isn't causing anymore problems. Battlefield 1 multiplayer is very intense and a lot of fun, especially with friends or just a good and helpful team. I can definitely recommend it if you like something else than all the flashy and futuristic shooters.
