Titanfall 2 (campaign)

If you played Titanfall then you probably remember how lame the campaign was in that game. Sure the multiplayer matches were fine but it was so vague what was going on because while NPCs were talking you had to defend or attack an area so I can't say that I was paying a lot of attention to what was being said. Then there was also the chance that you would lose the battle and that would be weird when you were supposed to win the battle. So I'm glad that Titanfall 2 has a single player campaign and it's pretty good!

Who are you in the campaign?

You play as Jack Cooper, a rifleman that is promoted to pilot when the pilot of a titan dies and makes you his replacement. This is the beginning of an interesting story where you see the bond between man and machine, which is actually quite fascinating. Your titan is BT and he will be your protector but don't think it's just you sitting in a titan gunning down other people or titans. Nope, you also have to do quite a lot of platforming which will test your skills and otherwise help you get some platforming skills. Sometimes it can be a bit confusing and frustrating when you have to do some fast parkour movement with deadly obstacles in the way but you do learn to get better the more you play it. Which is something that will help you in multiplayer.

You're not a silent hero?

Jack isn't the super talkative type, but there are moments where you can pick a response when BT is talking with you. That can give you some freedom with what you want to say but it's a small addition, don't expect it to be a Mass Effect dialogue option menu. When you encounter other characters in the campaign Jack is often silent which I find a bit odd, because it's almost as if he only talks to BT, but sometimes Jack has something to say to other characters. You do have to be quick with making a choice, if you wait too long with picking an answer then you end up saying nothing.

The campaign is good?

It's really good! I really enjoyed playing the campaign and I can definitely recommend it to other people. Not just the basic actions of running and shooting but also the platforming moments, the you against several titans, the titan loadouts and switching between those, the special abilities like turning invisible and switching between times is also a lot of fun. Especially that level where you get a device so you can switch between two different times, so one moment you're in the past and the base you infiltrated is still operational and people try to kill you and the other moment you enter the present where the base is destroyed and everyone is dead. What's really interesting is that when you kill someone in the past you see his corpse in the present if you switch back but it looks like that person has been dead for years. The platforming moments are a bit frustrating sometimes but once you manage to pull them off it looks pretty cool and make you feel quite good about yourself when you handle that like a pro. The action is pretty fast so I hope you have quick reflexes and manage to defend yourself because even on regular difficulty enemies will show you no mercy! There are two higher difficulties and one lower difficulty so you shouldn't have too many problems with the campaign.
