Is sex in games necessary?
I know that in certain countries sex is considered as a bad thing, at least in games. So the moment where two characters in the game get physical with eachother then some people already scream bloody murder. Even if the game is for people of 18 years and older. Apparently we need people to tell us that sex is bad, eventhough without it none of us would be here. But is sex so bad in games?
You don't need sex in a game?
That depends, because when I play a first person shooter like CoD or Battlefield then sex isn't something that springs to mind when I play these games. But if you play games with an interesting story, interesting characters and you being able to get into relationships with these characters then it makes more sense. Of course then it's up to the developers how they handle that. Are they going to show the whole thing or is it just going to be a tease where the screen goes black? But to answer the main question, no you don't need sex in a game. Why? Because eventhough it adds something extra to the game it doesn't make the game more interesting, at least not in the sense of wow without that the game would be terrible. Sex in games is something that is often used as you building a relationship with another character in the game, so in a game like the Sims that makes sense and also in games like Dragon Age and Mass Effect this makes sense because you spend a lot of time with your crew and can get in a relationship with some of your companions.
So sex in a game is a good thing?
I think it is, because it makes things a bit more real. Let's say two characters in a game are in love with eachohter but they never touch eachother, they never kiss eachother and they don't sleep together. In real life we would say that this is weird, because when you're in love with eachother you want to be together. So why wouldn't you want to put that in the game? Ok some people will probably just get in a relationship with a certain character in the game just to have sex with them, eventhough the player doesn't really have sex because they just control a character and in most games the sex scene is just a cinematic and in most of those cinematics you hardly see anything. It's not that you watch a hardcore porno that shows almost everything. I don't think developer mean to be vulgar with a sex scene in a game, they added that to make the relationship with another character give more meaning than just smiling at eachother in a conversation. The characters are really in love, so yeah they also do things that couples do in real life. Is that really a bad thing? Sure if you let a kid play a game that is meant for adults then yeah that's not good, but is that really the fault of the developers or the fault of the parents that should keep an eye on what kind of games their kids are playing? I don't think it takes a genius to figure this one out!
