Youtube adventures part 29
On several big channels you hardly ever see the youtuber responding to comments on his or her video. Does that mean that he or she doesn't care what other people have to say or are they expecting that much hate that they just don't bother reading the comments anymore? Then there's also the chance that the youtuber is just busy and doesn't have time to always read the comments. Whatever the reason, it's important that you stay in touch with your viewers, because if you just blindly post videos then you seem to be very detached and if you actually take the time to respond then people at least know that you care enough to read what you have to say.
Staying in touch with your viewers.
It might seem weird but it's important, because if you never respond and you never say anything to the viewers then it feels even weirder for people to watch your videos because it seems too much of a one way street. Of course a youtuber can't respond to every comment but it's nice when someone makes an effort to respond to at least some comments. But I definitely understand youtubers that don't want to because of all the hateful comments. It's easier to just make it impossible for people to comment on your video.
But if you break that link between you (the youtuber) and the viewers then you're missing out on a chance to communicate with your viewers. Even if nine out of ten people are assholes, there's always a chance that there are also friendly people out there that want to say something to you. Maybe they have something meaningful or helpful to say, which is usually appreciated. So don't be too quick to get rid of comments, because you're taking away a direct line to you so viewers will have a harder time communicating with you.
Is it important to communicate with your viewers? I think it is, at least if they're willing to talk with you and of course have something interesting to say. Because in the ocean of negative comments there are definitely good comments, people that have something nice to say or just want to help you. For example helpful advice to make better videos, to try new games or to work with other youtubers that you might get along with. It's not all bad, but there are a lot of negative comments out there so you might want to brace yourself for that. But the way I see it is that even if there are a thousand negative comments, it only takes one positive comment to make you feel better!
