It's nice when you can make a living out of your youtube job, but a lot of people can't and still need another job to pay the bills. It's extra rough for these people to maintain a youtube channel and keep it interesting, so I'm really impressed with people that can mix their day job with their youtube job and still have a succesful channel. The trick is...
Mixing work with pleasure.
I don't like work, at least not in the way some people enjoy it as if they can't live without it. I see work as a necessity and I doubt I'm the only one who thinks that. But it's nice when you really do like your job and do the things you like to do for a living. Your youtube channel could be a part of a job you like to do, eventhough it's not all fun. But the majority of it is and that's probably what motivates you, also getting positive comments on your channel can inspire you to do more or even better things with your channel.
When you have a day joy then that will require your attention the most, sure you can call in a sick day but if that happens too often then you're fired. So you really have to make that job your priority, even if you want to focus on youtube more you have to accept the fact that you need your day job and that this pays most of the things in your life. Fun is good and doing something fun is even better, but that doesn't mean you can ignore the things you don't like.
Combining your day job with youtube will take a lot of time away from you and it makes it hard for your family and friends to get in touch with you sometimes. Somehow there's always work and the moment you delay something it will cause problems later. So my way of handling things is get things done as quickly as you can and that focus on other things in your life. Unfortunately family and friends will see you less and that might lead to some friction and I can't blame them for that. So you might want to be smarter than me and make some good decisions and not spend too much time on work. I know that family can sometimes be a pain but they're family and that often means they have a right to be a pain every now and then. Friends will understand if you're busy but if you say too many times that you're too busy they might get the wrong idea, so you might want to keep in mind that there are more important things out there than youtube!
