I don't want the story to end!
You probably expect this from people that read books, watch movies or series. But did you know that some gamers feel the same way? This feeling that you don't want the game to end, that there will be a new adventure and new things to do. I guess dlc can give players that but sooner or later the story will end and then there's emptiness...or not?
Games have stories that never end?
Well not exactly, because everything that has a beginning also has an ending. But you can always play the game again, which is fun with some games. Especially games that let you customize the main character and so you can create multiple characters that are all unique and hopefully give you a unique playthough in the game. Dlc also keeps games alive a bit longer, they sometimes offer new stories and adventures to the already known game world. Unfortunately not every piece of dlc is worth buying and it's still delaying the inevitable. If you're really lucky the story will continue in a sequel, which is cool because dlc is one thing but an entire new game is of course much better. At least if it's a good game, a horrible sequel can also ruin a lot. Certain games, for example Mass Effect, have even a whole trilogy with the main character and his friends which really gives you an amazing adventure. It's like the story will never end but we all know what happens at the end of Mass Effect 3 and we all know that all things come to an end, both the good things and the bad things.
Should games just keep getting new dlc to keep the story alive?
That's very tempting, because that way you can keep your favourite game alive and you can keep playing it. But I wonder how well that would truly work. If you keep playing the same game then you might get sick of it, as strange as that might sound. How do you get sick of a game that you love? If you play it for months or maybe even years. It's good that there is diversity and that you switch to other games, that keeps things fresh and make you more excited about new games and or dlc. The trick is to find a certain balance in this, because if you spend two whole months on one game then you might get sick of that game and you probably don't want to play it for at least a year (maybe even longer). But if you switch it up a bit more then you keep games fun and interesting, then it doesn't feel like a grind when you need to reach a certain level in a game or make long conversations boring. It's good that games have an ending, because that allows other games to pick up where the old game ended or it will introduce you to new games. Don't be afraid to try new things and don't lose yourself too much in one game, there are so many games out there and a lot of them are worth checking out!
