Why are some people so easily scared?
Have you ever watched a horror movie or played a survival horror game with someone that is easily scared? Then you probably know that some people can be pretty extreme with their reaction, I mean some people actually close their eyes even before something happens. Maybe that makes us, people that aren't easily scared, assholes for putting them through that but it's not like every person is super heroic! Besides I doubt that people are really scared, it's just the idea that something might happen or that they know that something will happen but they just don't know what that is. So you could say that some people fear the unknown, even if it's just in a game or a movie.
How can you be afraid of something that isn't real?
Well that's where your imagination comes in to play, you see if you have little to no imagination then these scary games and movies will probably not affect you that much. But those with a lot of imagination are exposed to some horrible thoughts and ideas by just watching a horror movie or playing a survival horror game. So does that mean that some people have more imagination than others? It wouldn't surprise me to be honest.. I know from my own experience as a kid that scary movies can leave a big impact on you. For example when I would watch a zombie movie I would have my wakizashi (a Japanese sword) next to me, so if zombies would burst into my room I would have a weapon ready to defend myself. It's ridiculous of course but as a kid you like to have something near you that makes you comfortable. Maybe it's the same for other people, to feel safe and secure. Perhaps for some that's having someone else near them, eventhough other people could also easily be scared of something, others have a weapon with them or just avoid exposing themselves to something that makes them feel uncomfortable. I had a girlfriend that didn't want to watch horror movies or play survival horror games with me because it would give her nightmares, so I can understand, especially when I look at how horror movies had a strong effect on me as a kid, that it's sometimes better to avoid certain things instead of exposing yourself to it.
Are guys tougher than women tougher?
Eh...no, some guys might want you to believe that but no guys aren't tougher or more brave then women. The big difference between men and women on this subject is that women will most likely be more honest if something scares them while men would probably not admit that (especially not to their friends). I know things I don't like, I don't watch movies that have certain elements in it I don't like and I will avoid watching those type of movies at all costs. Now you're probably curious what kind of movies those are but let's just say the type with supernatural stuff in it that's based on a true story, I know the world can be a creepy place and I don't need to be reminded of that! It's smart being at least honest to yourself, to know your limits and not expose yourself to things that make you uncomfortable or keep you awake at night. I don't know about you but I like sleeping and if I watch something that keeps me awake at night then I know that I did something stupid!
Not everyone is scared?
Nope, not everyone is easily scared. Maybe some people are really not afraid of anything. Personally I find this dumb because fear is a survival instinct so if you have no fear for anything then that's not a good thing. I think fear keeps you human, to know that you're mortal and that life is a precious thing. Hm maybe I'm giving this too much thought but I just want you to know that it's ok to be afraid sometimes. Maybe some people make fun of you but remember that most people are afraid of someone or something. So if someone talks tough then nine out of ten times that person is full of shit! If you are easily scared then it's probably a smart idea to avoid scary games and movies, eventhough they can help you become a bit more resistant to things that scare you. I know that as a kid I wasn't that resistant to scary games and movies as I am now, so it does help to expose yourself a bit to that. But don't feel bad if you want a friend with you on the couch while you play a scary game or watch a scary movie. I think we all had a moment in our life that we were glad that there was someone else with you instead of you being alone.
