Upgrade your console or wait for the next console?
I hear a lot of people talking about the upgrades for the current consoles, both the Playstation 4 and the Xbox One are getting some upgrades. Eventhough Microsoft might keep that to a minimum and focus on the next console because I doubt that their upgrade is going to boost the performance of the Xbox One enough so it can be a serious rival for the Playstation 4. I'm not saying that the Xbox One is bad, but it's obvious which console is more powerful. This does bring up a question, do you want to upgrade your console or will you buy the next console on the market?
It's all about money?
Does that really surprise you? Well it shouldn't, because of course it's about money but I wouldn't say it's all about money. Ok maybe for some but I'm certain that there are developers out there that do the work they do because they like it. So what does that mean for the consoles? Well that probably means that you either have to pay extra to upgrade your console, buy a newer version of the console you already own and get the upgrades with that or you just sit and wait until the next console comes out. I know these aren't really options that make you happy, especially if you have your Playstation 4 and/or Xbox One only for a year or less. But that's how it goes, what's powerful now might be outdated a year later and with computers you're constantly upgrading if you want to be able to play the newest games on your PC and have the best performance. Consoles hardly ever had any issues with that, because you usually got a console and you'd be set for the next 3 to 5 years. I used my Xbox 360 for eight years so you can imagine how good a console can be. Unfortunately things have a nasty habit of changing.
Now you need to upgrade to be able to play the latest games on consoles?
I get a nasty feeling that this might be true, because why announce a more powerful console version when you don't want to make more powerful games? So these more powerful games will be either rubbish on the current consoles or you might not even be able to play them on the current consoles. So that kind of forces you hand and you might have to upgrade wether you want to or not. It really annoys me that this is what gaming is turning into, a race to get the best stuff and then after a year or so you have to upgrade again if you want to be able to play the latest games. Oh I'm certain that some games will still be playable on the current consoles but it wouldn't surprise me that some games need the upgraded version, otherwise your console just can't handle these games. I really wonder where that leaves us, the gamers. Do we have to spend a ridiculous amount of money on upgrades every year or can we actually buy a console and be set for at least five years? It might seem like a fantasy but I really hope I can enjoy my Xbox One for at least three more years, because if gaming is turning into a rich man's game then I'm out and find a hobby that doesn't try to screw me over every year!
