Sinful Sunday: Being stubborn is a good thing?
As a kid people always told me that I'm stubborn and that this isn't a good thing, I should listen to others and follow their advice and the rules. As you can expect I didn't listen, I hardly ever follow advice and I make my own rules. Ok maybe that's not the smartest way of living but it has helped me when I play games. Because if I wouldn't be stubborn I probably wouldn't have finished as many games as I have now, because there is always that moment where a game frustrates me so much that I just want to rip it out of my harddrive and throw it against the wall. But instead of doing that I try again until I finally beat it. Yeah being stubborn can be a good thing!
Games can really test you?
Some games can, especially if you play them on a high difficulty. That's usually what separates the die hard gamers from the casual gamers. Now I'm not calling myself a die hard gamer, I absolutely have my limits and I don't like to step into what happens if I cross those limits, but I do like a challenge and I will challenge myself sometimes with certain games. Wether that's because of an achievement or because I enjoy a game so much that I want to play it again but now on a higher difficulty and perhaps get a sweet reward for that. Not every game is challenging though, some games clearly don't want you to die and even when you do die in the game there are a lot of checkpoints and other abilities that can keep you alive. For example Life is strange protects you from death, because if you would die because of something the game freezes time and you can rewind time and try again. So you don't have to go through a death animation or click on continue to get back into the game. Other games like the Batman Arkham games do have these moments where you die and you have to sit through a taunt from one of the villains in that game, that alone is already a challenge!
So more people should be stubborn?
I don't think that would be a good thing, because if we would all be stubborn then how would we be able to get things done? We would probably all do our own thing and no one would be able to work together effectively. There's nothing wrong with being stubborn, but sometimes it's good to listen or to work with people that are easy going. Put two stubborn people in one room and that can end very badly. The same happens in a game, if you play online multiplayer and two stubborn people meet eachother on opposite teams then that can result in a rivalry or some interesting battles. Because both don't want to back down and both want to win from the other. I guess stubborn people are just one of many special flavours in the world that makes the world an interesting place, if we would all be exactly the same then the world would be a boring place.
