Cutting up a game in pieces before release

Let's make one thing clear, I don't mean this literally! That would be stupid and a waste. No I'm talking about games that get cut into pieces and you get to play these games one piece at a time. They've done this with the new Hitman game but also the very popular Final Fantasy VII remake is going to get that treatment. How do you feel about that? Are you happy with that or do you just want a full game on launch day?

Games aren't the same anymore?

Unfortunately they're not. In the good old days you bought a game, usually you finished  that game in a couple of days and then you either played the shit out of that game or you were waiting for the next game. I guess thinking back at how this went it wasn't really the good old days, more like the old long waiting days. Now things go a lot faster, games are released faster, eventhough there are some delays, and you get more games to choose from every month. So it's a good time to be a gamer. But then you get the episodic games, for example the Walking Dead game, the Wolf among us, Life is strange and Game of Thrones game. You have to wait quite some time for every episode so it makes playing these games a bit frustrating, unless you decide to wait until all episodes are available and then you buy them all at once. The point is that games aren't the same as they once were, we play a bit different now and we also get games a bit different. So it makes sense that our playstyle has changed a bit and that we don't all wait for that one game in the year that makes everything better, no now we have multiple games we play and some we play in parts and sometimes you're not even done with one game and you already start with another game. I really don't like that, but it's the way games are played these days and who is going to stop that?

A new way of playing?

This does introduce a new way of playing, it's pretty much the same as how you might watch certain series on tv. Because you usually follow more than one or two series at once, hell I had a time where I would follow more than twenty series at once and yeah that can be confusing sometimes but strangely enough you can get used to that. It's not that different when it comes to playing games, you play one game for a day and then switch to another. With controls this can be confusing, at least it is for me sometimes, but usually it just takes you a moment and you're back into the game without any real problems. So you might play an episode of Life is strange, then switch to Black Ops 3 for some zombie killing, then switch to the Division for some loot hunting in the dark zone and then you close the day with a raid in Destiny. This might seem chaotic but this is how some people play games. So are you really surprised that developers cut up games? We don't all spend that much time on one game, at least not all at once and often switch to other games. So it makes sense that some developers try to make their game fit into this new playstyle.

Are there other reasons why games are getting cut up into pieces?

I think the Final Fantasy VII remake is a good example, because this game gets cut up into pieces because it would be too big to release it all at once. Oh it would be possible but then you'd had to wait for four to five more years to see this game while you'll be able to play it sooner, or at least a part of the game, if they cut it up into pieces. I know that some people hate this, but others are at least happy that they're able to play the FF VII remake rather sooner than later. So it wouldn't surprise me that other games  get this treatment as well, so you don't have to wait that long for the sequel in a game series. That's actually a good thing but it does worry me a bit, because if games are all getting cut up into pieces it will be more confusing and I feel less connected with a game. For example when I play Mass Effect then I don't want to play half a game and then have to wait a couple of years for the other half. That would ruin the experience for me. Maybe some people don't have that problem but I guess I'm just too much of an old gamer to adjust to the new way of playing. Besides what's wrong with the old way of playing?!!!
