Sinful Sunday: Games that drive you crazy

I know that there are people that can drive you crazy, both in the good way and in the bad way, but there are also games that can drive you crazy and that's usually in a bad way. For example this level you just can't beat or a boss that just won't die in a game, it's frustrating but unfortunately it happens. So what can you do about that? Well you can smash your head against the wall and hope that you completely forget about this game or you can be stubborn and keep trying until you succeed. Either way you'll get a headache!

You should know your limits?

Absolutely! If you know your limits then you know how far you can go, which hopefully prevents you from going crazy if you can't beat a game. For example you won't see me playing racing games, sport games or fighting games because these games usually frustrate me a lot and I'm absolutely rubbish when it comes to these type of games. It's also smart to stay away from hard mode or an even higher difficulty when you already struggle with normal mode, oh sure that achievement or trophy might look pretty sweet if you can unlock it but if you have to go crazy with anger and frustration in the process then you really have to ask yourself if it's worth it. I think it's smarter to stick to what you're comfortable with, it might not get you all the achievements/trophies but at least it keeps the fun in the game!

Do you know the definition of insanity?

Well you probably know it if you've played Far Cry 3, but in case you haven't then I'll try to explain it to you. The definition of insanity is trying something over and over again and still expect a different outcome. It seems weird that anyone would do that but have you ever tried to beat a difficult boss or some part in the game that just keeps killing you? Then you probably have tried the same thing over and over again but still failed, I know that I've done that and do you know why? Because I really believed that it would work. To be totally honest it eventually did work, but often something goes wrong and it's not even always your fault. Let's say there's a way to beat a boss if you stand behind something so he can't hit you, but somehow he manages to hit through the object you use as a shield, that's unfortunate but it doesn't mean that the strategy to beat the boss is bad. I would say that you were unlucky and should try again. Eventually it will work but you probably have to go through some frustration to finally beat the boss or the game. Of course you could look on the internet for a good strategy to beat a boss or a game, but I personally prefer to beat a boss or game on my own. Unfortunately that sometimes comes with a price and that price might be some sanity.

Isn't it better to just stop playing games?

I guess it is, but would you give up on driving just because you sometimes get frustrated in traffic? I don't think so! Sure gaming can be frustrating but it's part of gaming sometimes, you can't expect to beat games without some effort. Sometimes it's a struggle and sometimes you might lose your mind, but in the end I think it's worth it when you finally beat the game and get some nice achievements/trophies as a reward. Oh some would call you crazy but in the end it's what you think and not what someone else thinks, so if you think it's worth it then go for it. But I would recommend taking a break every now and then, because sometimes it actually helps taking a break and then when you try again then things might actually go a bit better. Getting angry and frustrated usually works counterproductive so taking a break might actually help, besides if you keep at it then you might actually lose your mind. So be smart and know your limits, which means taking a break when you can and don't try things if you know that they frustrate you. It's just advice though, feel free to play games the way you want to but just remember that games can be frustrating and banging your head against the wall usually doesn't solve the problem!
