Why would you buy a season pass for a game?
When the season pass for games was first introduced I didn´t trust it, pay for something that you´ll get later. I was raised not to trust things like that and I wouldn´t want to spend money on that. But the season pass would often save you some money on the exact same thing you would buy otherwise (dlc) and sometimes you would even get some extra items you wouldn´t get otherwise. So the question should be, why wouldn´t you buy a season pass for a game?
I think a lot of people don´t know if they´re going to buy the dlc for a game, especially if the game itself wasn´t exactly what they expected or if they would rather play other games. Dlc isn´t for everyone so it would be stupid to buy a season pass for a game if you´re not going to play the dlc you get with that. So it makes sense that not everyone would buy a season pass. People that first want to see what the dlc will be can always buy the season pass later, but once you bought some dlc without the season pass then you´re often better off to buy the rest as well without the season pass as it will probably not save you any money anymore.
Does a season pass always guarantee you that you´ll save money? No, sometimes it doesn´t save you money but it´s just easier to pay for all that at once and then get the dlc whenever it will be released. That does mean you invest in a game without even knowing what the dlc will be about, so you can be disappointed! That´s why several games show you season pass trailers to give you an idea what you can get if you buy the season pass for future dlc. Assassin´s Creed Unity did that and now Shadows of Mordor as well. It´s actually a smart trick to convince people to buy the season pass.
If the season pass is too expensive for you then you can always check the dlc later and buy what you really want to have. It sucks if you have to miss out on a good deal but it´s smart to not waste all your money on just one thing you don´t really need, even if it helps you save some Dollars or Euros. It wouldn´t surprise me that there will always be people that won´t buy the season pass and that´s their choice! They might have a good reason for that and sometimes that actually makes a lot of sense. But if you have the money and you´re interested in the dlc for a game, then it might be a smart idea to buy the season pass so you might save some money and perhaps even get something extra as well.
