Destiny, it´s everything you always wanted?
Yesterday I talked about all the negative comments about Destiny, how a lot of people thought and maybe still think how this game will fail. Well I think that they´re wrong! I´ve played Destiny and it was so much fun! Eventhough I´m absolutely rubbish at it right now, I think with some practice I could be a decent player. Playing solo is a bit challenging but it´s not impossible, but there are a lot of people online so there should be potential team mates out there!
What can you expect from this game? In just a few words? A lot! Imagine a big open world where you can pick missions, advance your character, fight alongside other people or against them, explore planets in our solar system and so much more! I really like how you can be your own character in this universe and stick out with your unique outfit, character, emblem, ship and weapons. You can customize a lot and this can work to your advantage if you do it right. It´s easy to get lost in this game, but once you let it all sink in you´ll be finding your way like you´ve always been there. Of course the game helps you out by pointing you in the right direction, then you always have your companion ghost that travels with you and helps you find your way. It´s a wild adventure that is so addictive that once you start you just don´t want to stop!
Is it really that difficult solo? Some missions might be a bit challenging, I think it helps if you play as a titan (this class has the best armor) because you can take a bit more damage. But with upgrades as you level up and get better weapons you can beat most characters they throw at you. If you fall then you can spawn and try again, in certain areas there is a no spawning zone, which means if you play solo that you have to go through that again. This might be a bit rough but if you go in prepared you should be ok. If not then it might be a smart idea to team up with other players.
What about connection issues? I´m surprised to say that I only had a few of those, at first it was a pain to log in because I started that early in the afternoon on my Xbox One. But after several attempts I got in, but then in my character creation menu got kicked out. I got back in and stayed in, eventhough I had connection issues again twice during a mission. The first time was at the start which wasn´t a terrible thing, but the second time I was in the no spawning zone. I thought I had to do everything again but the game spawned me right at the start of the no spawning zone (there´s a checkpoint there) and I didn´t have to do everything again. If you lose connection while in the game, for example in the guardian tower or during a mission then you´re in your ship. You can choose to set destination and you´re back where you want to go. So it´s not a big deal, just a little bit annoying sometimes. At least things are working pretty good for such a popular game on the first day, because with GTA Online I could even play on the first day because of the amount of people that tried to log in.
What about other players? So far I don´t think I´ve encountered any douchebags trying to ruin the fun, I think everyone is first trying to figure things out and level up their character. In competitive multiplayer (the crucible) you´ll find some more frustration, people that only use power weapons or camp in corners or on the rooftops. It´s annoying but nothing to make it unplayable, I´ve had fun playing it and I´ll be back for some more onslaught but right now I really want to focus on the story. In the story you´ll often see other players running around on the way to their objective, so far I haven´t really had issues with that where I had the same mission as the other and that we were in eachothers way. The game gives you your unqiue location and in the no spawning zone it´s just you, so I don´t think other people will be that annoying when you just want to complete missions. Maybe some would make it their mission to annoy you, but I think that most people just want to play the game.
Why should you play this game? To keep it simple, it´s fun! There is so much to do, so much to discover and so much to figure out that you just want to keep playing. With three different classes (titan, hunter and warlock) there is plenty of room for playing the game again from the start. You make the decisions, you decide what you want to do and there is so much to choose from. I don´t say that this is the greatest game ever, but it´s one of the best first person shooters I´ve played! By the way, if you have a silver account you can also play Destiny. But this is the solo experience, you can´t play multiplayer and if that´s something you want then you´ll need a gold account. But at least it´s nice that you can play the game without having to upgrade to a gold account.
Well that´s enough from me, I´m going to play some more!
