The evil within (game)

I must admit that survival horror games have changed for me, as much as I enjoyed playing the first couple of Resident Evil and Silent Hill games that as much as the last titles from the same game series have actually scared me. Oh sure there is disturbing, but disturbing isn´t really scary. Of course what I find scary another person might find hilarious, it´s difficult to really name something that is scary for everyone. So what about this new game, the evil within?

I´ve seen trailers about this game and it looks interesting, then I saw some gameplay and that looked like a lot of fun! This game is made by Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami, you probably recognized the mansion in the evil within trailers. I do think it looks a bit like the mansion from the first Resident Evil game, but this one looks more twisted and a lot darker than the Resident Evil version. Everything in this game is pretty disturbing, not just the environment but also the creatures you encounter. You actually have to burn the corpses of the undead like creatures, just like the zombies in the remake of Resident Evil. You also have traps that can easily kill you and probably drive you insane, but you can destroy them and then use them to make weapons or ammo for your crossbow.

So what´s going on in this game? To be honest I decided not to delve too deep into the story because it´s a bit more scary when you don´t know what´s going on! But from what I learned you play as a veteran police detective called Sebastian Castellanos and in the trailer you have to save this woman from a mysterious guy called Ruvik. Unfortunately this Ruvik is someone you can´t kill, but he will show up while you explore the mansion and that means run! He doesn´t run after you but like a real serial killer from the old teen slasher movies he walks slowly towards you. This gives you the chance to run away or hide. This reminds me a bit of Nemesis in Resident Evil 3, eventhough you could battle Nemesis and defeat him (for the moment).

The game looks amazing and it seems it´s going to make October very interesting! So if you need to escape from Destiny for a moment or you´re looking for a game to keep your console warm until the big titles launch in November, then this game might be what you´re looking for. Of course if you enjoy playing survial horror games and you´re looking for something new to test your nerves then this is also a great game to play!
