Resident Evil partners, good or bad?
Have you seen the latest gameplay of Resident Evil Revelations 2? It seems you have another partner and it´s a playable one as well, but more in the sense of you being able to switch between the two characters as you might remember from Resident Evil Zero. But is this really a good thing and are we really waiting for this type of gameplay?
Resident Evil partners are bad? That would depend, because in some games they´re ok and in other games they´re horrible. In one thing they´re all the same, they don´t really help you kill the enemy and especially in boss fights it´s all you. But sometimes you get a horrible partner like Sheva in Resident Evil 5 that constantly blocks your shots, especially when you hold the rocket launcher then things can get ugly! But most Resident Evil partners are either in the background to do nothing or wandering off somewhere on their own doing nothing, so in a way I don´t understand why you would put them in anyway. Besides survival horror games are scarier when you´re all alone and no one is there with you...well except the monsters.
The main characters in Resident Evil Revelations 2 are Claire Redfield and Moira Burton, the daughter of Barry Burton (a member of S.T.A.R.S. Alpha team), who have to work together to escape some type of prison with zombie creatures or at least it definitely looks that way. If it´s going to be just like Resident Evil Zero then that means you have to work together to solve puzzles, which means switching between characters and standing on the right pressure plates. It´s nothing new and to be honest I´m a bit disappointed that they went back to this. I don´t want to complain too much though because the game looks beautiful! It´s just a bit of a disappointment for me personally when it comes to the main characters and now this partner switching thing.
Unfortunately I can´t confirm if this game is also playable with a friend, that would make it a lot better because then you don´t have to switch between two characters to solve puzzles. It would be nice if for once Capcom would make a Resident Evil game where your partner is actually smart enough to kill enemies and do things on its own. Maybe it´s wishful thinking but so far I´m not impressed with the partners you get in Resident Evil games. It really makes me want to go back to the early Resident Evil games when it was just you against the monsters, it was simple and it worked good so why change that? Oh right because we need bloody co-op in almost everything these days and to switch it up we also need to switch between two characters because we can´t get enough of just one character. I think I´ll play some Resident Evil now...
