Looking back at.....Dead Island!
Dead Island isn´t even an old game, but I don´t mind looking back at games that aren´t that old. The idea is to see what you can expect when you play this game and if it´s fun to play. A lot of people enjoy playing it so let´s take a closer look at this game.
So what do you do in this game? It´s actually quite simple, you kill zombies. Not from the safe third person view but in first person view, this makes close confrontations a bit intense but that also gives the game some more character. Talking about character, you can play as four different survivors and in the Ryder White dlc you can play as another character. Each character has his or her own abilities and favourite type of weapon. You have the blunt weapon specialist, the sharp weapon specialist, the fire arms specialist and the throwing weapon specialist. Each character also has a role, for example the blunt weapon specialist is also the tank and the sharp weapon specialist is also the healer. This means that if you play in a team of four people playing all with different characters that things will be a bit easier. Of course you can also play solo, eventhough certain areas are a lot easier if you have some company to help you out.
What about the story? The story is ok, I mean it´s nothing fancy and it doesn´t leave you in awe but then again that´s probaby not the reason why you would buy a game like Dead Rising. You play this game because you want to kill zombies and that´s something you can do, a lot! Just be prepared to go through some nasty areas and face some disturbing and weird characters! Once you go to the last area you can´t go back to the other areas, which sucks because if you missed something then there is no way to go back. It´s not a difficult game and if you play solo then it can be boring after some time, which is why I would advice to play with others because that makes the game a bit more interesting.
After Dead Island you got several other games in the Dead Island family. First of all you have Dead Island Riptide with the four same characters and one new character, this game feels more like a big dlc than a new game to me but it´s still fun to play. Dead Island Epidemic is a bit different, no longer with the first person view but now you have a top down view and that feels a bit weird if you played the other games. Then you have Escape Dead Island, this is a cell shaded game that is a third person shooter. And finally you have Dead Island 2, this one will be released next year and it´s probably going to be the game every Dead Island fan is waiting for, except if you don´t like the fact that you´ll share your game world with several other people and that there is no story in that game. I don´t know if Dead Island games will have a future but they keep coming and apparently people keep playing them, so who knows how many we´ll have ten years from now.
