Looking back at.....Batman Forever! (SNES)

I wonder if you even remember this game or that you even realized that this game existed. It´s not really one of the best movie games and the movie itself wasn´t really one of the best either, but it was the first movie game I bought and played. Mostly because I did like the movie, thanks to Jim Carrey as the Riddler, and I was curious how the game would play. Also I wanted another game that I could play together with a friend.

So you play as Batman and Robin? Yes, player one is Batman and player two is Robin. I don´t think anyone is surprised by that! It does follow the movie in a way but it´s expanded as short scenes in the movie are whole levels in the game. These levels are full of enemies that run up to you and try to punch you, the best way to counter them is sit and wait until they´re close enough for the uppercut. It´s not the most exciting way of beating a game but you can do it almost flawless like that! You also have bosses in this game, the Riddler and Two Face. Especially the Riddler boss fight is hilarious when he´s in that powersuit that makes him look a bit like Bane. This is about as wrong as you can get, the Riddler would never go for a fist fight, he uses other tactics to beat Batman!

But is this game fun to play? It is, but only if you have a friend with you because to play this solo is going to be boring after some time. Games like this are much better if you play with a friend anyway. It is fun to just beat the shit out of enemies with a friend, that makes things a bit better eventhough it still feels repetitive. Also the platforming moments, jumping over holes, can lead up to some funny moments where your friend misses the jump. I wouldn´t recommend spending a fortune on this game but for just a couple of Dollars or Euros it seems like a good deal for a rainy day.

If you really want to enjoy playing a Batman game then I can definitely recommend playing one of the Batman Arkham games (with Batman Arkham City being my favourite at this moment). These are single player games but a lot of fun to play! Actually there is a multiplayer mode in Batman Arkham Origins but that´s not what I would recommend, just play the single player (story) and you´ll have a great time playing that!
