Playing as a female in games
When you play certain games you sometimes have a choice what your main character is going to be, but then there are also games that have a female main character. If a game has a female main character you choose to play that way, this isn´t something that is considered as weird by a lot of gamers. But when you choose to play as a female instead of a male then there are gamers that would find you weird. I say weird but I don´t think it´s a secret what they really say, let´s just say not something nice! Personally if a guy wants to play as a female character in a game isn´t that his choice? The same counts for girls that want to play as a male character, nobody seems to be troubled by that or maybe people just don´t expect that.
Is playing as a female when you´re a male wrong? No I don´t think that this is wrong, because you play a role in a game and it´s not really you. So if you have more fun playing as a female then why not? Some gamers talk about playing as a female makes you more difficult to hit, because the character model of a female character is a bit smaller than that of a male male character. Well I don´t know if that true and to be honest it sounds like a lame excuse to play with a female character. Then there is another excuse. People then say that they prefer to watch at the butt of a woman then that of a man while playing, with third person games that makes sense but when you play first person games it makes no sense. Personally I don´t see the problem, so you enjoy playing as a female character, ok have fun with that. I mean why do we have to make a big deal out of it? You play as a character in a game, it´s not really you and it doesn´t have to say anything about you. If you´re really that worried what others have to say about your choice in game characters then play as a male character, but if you really prefer female characters then just mute and ignore people that have something negative to say about your choice.
A female character in a game is hardly ever controlled by a girl? Girls have been playing games for a long time, so I don´t think that there ever was a time that it was only guys who played games. But I understand that some people are not that trusting when a female character walks around in a spicy outfit and is flirting with others. In a mmorpg that´s usually suspicious to say the least! I know from my Guild Wars adventures that I´ve encountered guys pretending to be women online, it´s usually not that difficult to figure out. But some play their role pretty good and you´ll never know unless you can catch them on a mistake. Still I don´t see that as a reason to assume every female character in the mmorpg world is controlled by a guy. Just be careful when someone is obviously flirting and acting quite strange, even if that female character is controlled by a girl you´d still wouldn´t want anything to do with that person! But don´t assume every female character is controlled by a guy, there are female gamers out there and just because they´re not always that vocal doesn´t mean that they don´t exist!
Sometimes games are interesting enough to try to play as the opposite gender, I think Star Wars Knight of the Old Republic is a good example of that. Playing as the male Revan it really made me curious about the female Revan, well that wasn´t that much fun because I couldn´t tease Bastilla that much. Games like Dragon Age: Origins, Dragon Age 2 and the Mass Effect trilogy are a bit more interesting to play as the opposite gender. It´s also nice that you have some more interesting romance options, because as a straight guy it´s not that interesting to date a guy in the game. But when there is an option to date another girl then it becomes more interesting. But I do think you give the games not enough credit if that would be the only reason to play as the opposite gender. Still that shower scene in Mass Effect 3 with female Shepard is kind of interesting... Anyway it doesn´t really matter what gender you play and what gender you have, as long as you have fun with the game then that´s good enough reason to play as whatever you want. We all have our own choices, dreams and ideas about something. Just because someone thinks different or wants something different doesn´t automaticly make him or her wrong!

Personally I don´t see the problem when a man wants to play as a woman in a game, but I´m not that fond of people who lie to other people and tell them that they´re someone they´re not!
