Gaming and relationships
The best type of relationship for a gamer is when your girlfriend (or boyfriend) also likes gaming. Seems simple, unfortunately not everyone is a big fan of gaming. Then you have people that like gaming but not too much, so for the die hard gamers that might still not be what they´re looking for. But is it that healthy for a relationship when you´re both hardcore gamers? Well I would definately advice that you don´t spend most of your time behind a computer or console, definately also have some other quality time together. Of course it´s cool that you can spend time together what you both like, but never lose yourself in the world of games. Especially when your partner isn´t that interested in games, you don´t want to force something on them that they don´t like. They´ll might play some games, but that´s more for you then for themselves.
When your boyfriend or girlfriend doesn´t like gaming, what do you do? First of all you should think if you want to be with someone that doesn´t like something that you´re passionate about, unless you´re a casual gamer yourself then it doesn´t really have to be a problem. But for the hardcore gamers it´s quite unthinkable to spend a week without gaming, something your boyfriend or girlfriend that doesn´t like gaming might expect every now and then. But I wouldn´t say that it´s a reason to break up, because as long as you love eachother then there should be enough fuel in the relationship to keep going. Just remember to ease off a bit with gaming when your boyfriend or girlfriend is around, because forcing someone to play or watch games might not be something that is best for the relationship. But some couples have figured it out, then one plays games and the other watches the tv or reads a book. Then you also have people that like to watch others play games, if that works then why not?
Playing games on the couch is a hobby meant for singles? Maybe some people feel that way, any type of distraction seems to anger and frustrate them. So having someone next to you on the couch that can´t keep his or her hands of you might not be what you´re looking for. But to spend your life alone might be a bit drastic, a relationship is about sacrifices so having that partner on your couch might just be something you´ll have to learn to live with. Besides how bad can it be? Ok maybe a hand down your pants might not help you concentrate but maybe that´s exactly what you need to unwind a little, we don´t all unwind like that by shooting at innocent civilians on the street in Saints Row IV or GTA V! But if you feel like you need some concentration for beating a boss or get past a difficult part of a stage, then don´t feel bad for telling your partner to back off. Of course I would recommend not telling them literally to back off, just ask them nicely if they can leave you alone for a moment. Oh and whatever you do never react your anger or frustration on your partner, it´s easy to blame someone else for your mistakes but I wouldn´t recommend you do that. It won´t do you any good in the relationship!
Having a partner with a love for games is cool? I certainly think so! Not only is it fun to play games with people you love, it´s also nice to share something you like with someone you love. You can have some ´friendly´ competition with high scores or work together as a loving but professional team. Just don´t yell at your partner when he or she makes a mistake, I don´t think that will give you bonus points! If you both like different types of games then don´t make fun of that, maybe if you show a bit of interest in his or her games then he or she might show more interest in your games. Then there is also the chance that you might like console games and your partner is more of a pc gamer, but you can also have a different for two different consoles. Now that might actually be difficult to overcome, because if you truly don´t like the other console or pc then it´s difficult to get into that. But just remember that if you do something nice for him or her then he or she might do that for you. So calling someone stupid for liking something else than your console or pc isn´t working in your advantage. This probably all seems obvious but you would be suprised to hear how many relationships have fallen apart because of silly arguments like this. Having a boyfriend or girlfriend that likes games just as much as you is cool, just remember to play fair and also never ever let the other win on purpose. Why? Because you´ll never hear the end of it!
