Retired gamers, is that a thing?
When you look at certain sports there comes a time that you quit, because your body just can´t take much more or you´re just not as good as you once were. I´m not saying that gamers are like athletes but I wonder if there is an age when you would stop playing games? As a kid I never really thought much about myself being a middle ages man and still playing games, I don´t think many kids would think about that. But now that I´m at an age where gaming could be considered as a waste of my time and I should be doing something else with my life, I can´t help but think about how it affects others who are also beyond their teenage years.
Gaming is only for kids? This is something some people seem to believe, they find it so weird that someone older than 20 is still playing games. As far as I know there is nothing against adults playing games! Some of the games that you get these days are sometimes only for adults, but that doesn´t stop kids from playig it. So why should adults feel ashamed to play games? I mean if you enjoy playing Lego games then that´s not a crime! But if you´re more into GTA V or Resident Evil Revelations then that´s fine as well, play whatever makes you happy! There will always be people that judge you, probably because their life sucks and so they need to bother others. Never let your fun be ruined by those that don´t know what fun is!
But let´s say that you´re 50, do you still see yourself playing games? I think that games have become much better by then, maybe you can´t keep up with the newest games and things just to too fast. I know people who get headaches playing first person shooters, these people aren´t even old! So imagine how fast and crazy things might be in the future, it might be difficult to keep up with that. It wouldn´t suprise me if I´d be more into retro gaming by then, because I like games as they were and also a bit how they are now. But when I look at Kinect I see something I don´t like, it´s not the future I want with games and I can´t help but think that is the future you´re forced to go. Especially when you´re older you don´t feel like jumping in front of your screen after a long day of work, but I didn´t feel like that after a long day of school either...
I have to admit that I´ve never met someone that is a retired gamer, how does that even work? Does that mean you don´t play games anymore or is it then just for fun? I guess for the professionals there might be a thing as retirement, where you stop playing at the highest level and just play games for fun. I guess when you´re around 30 that might be the time to stop, but maybe I´m wrong and you can keep it up a lot longer. To be honest with you I don´t even want to think about quit playing games, I´m still having way too much fun playing games! As long as you have fun playing games, then I don´t think you´re too old to play them!
