Bugs, glitches or hacks?
I think we´ve all played a game that showed some weird behaviour, where things happened that probably shouldn´t have happened. This can work to your advantage but it can also work against you. It´s probably better that games don´t contain anything to give an unfair advantage to some people or just make it unplayable for other people. I think that these bugs, glitches and hacks have been in games for almost as long as there have been games. Because as long as you have rules then there will always be people trying to bend or break the rules. Other times games are rushed and not exactly ready to be sold in the current stadium. But money can make people lose their passion and reason why they even got into the game business. So you as a gamer get games that are just not fun to play, for example getting stuck in a wall or having to deal with enemies that don´t die. I´d say that makes it very frustrating to play!
Trouble in the game, who do you blame? I think a lot of people like to blame the developers, which in some cases is true but is it always their fault? People that mess with the game can break it or bend certain things more to their advantage. So you can blame developers for letting this happen, but really what can you do about this? If people want to then they´ll be able to mess with it sooner or later, all you can do is hope that they don´t and if they do that they get caught and permanently removed from the online world. Of course that´s wishful thinking, it´s probably not something we (gamers) believe. Whatever someones motivation is for making games, I think it´s safe to say that everyone wants their game to be good. Because when a game is difficult to play because of bugs, glitches or even hacks then you don´t feel like playing that game for long. Sometimes I get the feeling that some developers get attacked personally, because they made changes and some people in the community aren´t happy about that. I think that some of these people forget that they just try to fix or stabilize a game, there is no bad intention of the developers to make your life miserable. But some people also take it way too far and way too personal, as if a gun that reloads a few bits of a second slower is a matter of life and death. It´s nice that you´re passionate about a game but come on, let´s not forget that it´s a game and not the end of the world if something changes.
Do some games have more issues then others? Absolutely, I´ve played games that had so many problems that you´d get a patch almost every week. Once again this is often the trouble with releasing your game too early, because the game might not be fully tested and thus it´s not wise to launch it. There is nothing more frustrating then playing your new game for the first time and you see quickly that things are going wrong without it being your fault. Sure sometimes bugs or glitches can be funny, like a flying car or people walking upside down. But it makes it more difficult to play the game and in some cases impossible. I think Max Payne 3 multiplayer had a lot of problems. I don´t say this was all the fault of Rockstar, because the game has enough cheaters in it that use hacks. You wouldn´t be that suprised to find people that are invisible, invincible or some could even shoot through walls. But sometimes Rockstar did mess up, when a lot of people that downloaded the latest patch suddenly lost all their progress in multiplayer (back to level 1). I think this was in Fall of 2012, so this made people mad (to say the least). Eventually Rockstar has fixed this and they rewarded players with some double xp (or triple xp, I can´t fully remember to be honest). So it´s nice that you´re compensated with that, because you don´t keep a lot of faithful gamers when your game goes crazy on them. But it´s not just Max Payne 3, there are plenty of other games that also have issues. The reason why I mentioned Max Payne 3 is because it´s one of the most recent bad experiences I´ve had with games, at least when it comes to this subject. But I would like to add that Rockstar handles their issues nicely, so when something goes wrong they do seem to work hard on fixing it. Of course not everyone feels that way and I guess when you´re frustrated it easy to feel like that, but I guess it´s not as easy as it would seem to fix a game.
Waiting for your game to be fixed or move on? I think that people these days have less patience, they want things to be fixed as soon as possible and that´s not always how it goes. So it´s easy to move on, get rid of a game that frustrates you and maybe that´s for the best. Because you shouldn´t play a game that makes you angry every time you play it, it´s not healthy for you and probably not healthy for your neighbours! But sometimes it pays off to wait, to be patient and do something else in the meantime. Then when the game is fixed you can return to the game and hopefully you can enjoy it, it sucks of course if it happens but let´s just be honest and say that these things happen. Sure you can get mad, say you´ll never buy a game from these people again but there must have been a reason why you bought the game in the first place. So maybe it´s not that bad? Patience really is a virtue for gamers, but also difficult when you were so happy about a game and it disappoints you. That´s why I suggest that sometimes it´s smart to walk away, just do something else or play another game. Hopefully later the game is fixed and the bad experiences you had with the game are just a distant memory.
