People who only play in multiplayer
Have you ever checked profiles when you were waiting in a lobby? Sometimes you don´t even really have to check the profile, just check their game progress in their game profile. For example in Halo 4 you can check at what difficulty the player has beaten the campaign or if the player has even beaten the campaign. It´s a good way to pass the time when you´re waiting for the next match. I´m actually suprised by the amount of people who haven´t completed the campaign, some people haven´t even played through the first chapter! It really makes me wonder why they even bought the game, because buying a game just for one mode seems like a waste of time. Wouldn´t it be smarter to wait until the game becomes cheaper and then you but a less expensive game and you don´t feel like you just wasted 60 Euros on multiplayer. Thanks to dlc´s these days you´ll probably pay a lot more for multiplayer, at least if you want to be able to play in every match or otherwise you´ll be gracefully kicked automaticly by the game.
I have to admit that I´ve played games mostly for multiplayer, but it was never only for multiplayer. I remember when they launched the Orange box, which contained several games. You´d get Half Life 2, Half Life 2 episode 1 and episode 2, Portal and Team Fortress 2. I´d have to admit that the only reason why I bought the Orange box was because I wanted to play Team Fortress 2 on my Xbox 360. A good decision if I do say so myself, but I still had four other games that I´d hardly play. It took some months before I got into the other games and that was fun (especially Portal) but the main reason for buying the Orange box was always Team Fortress 2. But the difference here is that you get 5 separate games for the price of 1. When I buy Assassin´s Creed IV I won´t be buying it for the multiplayer, I buy it for the single player and then when I´m done with that I´ll move on to the multiplayer. I always thought that most people would do that, but I guess I was wrong.
So a lot of people just buy games for multiplayer? I guess some people actually do that, which isn´t that suprising. Because multiplayer is usually what keeps a game alive when you´re done with the single player. So if you skip single player and dive into multiplayer from the start you´ll have an advantage on players that join later. But I don´t really see the importance in that myself, I´ll probably get beaten a lot at first but I´ll learn and become better in my own pace. So I don´t really think it´s important to skip single player just for that one or two weeks of advantage you might get. I used the same type of excuse when I bought Black Ops, I wanted to play the zombie mode and bought the game because of that reason. But I did enjoy the single player and later also the multiplayer, so when I bought Black Ops 2 I bought the game for all modes and not just one or two! But there is sometimes a more sinister reason why people dive into multiplayer without playing single player. That reason is to annoy other people, to be that irritating person that ruins the fun for everyone.
Why would someone buy a game and then only play multiplayer to annoy other people? Well it´s not a big secret but I´ll tell you, these people are sad and don´t have much better things to do with their life so they´ll be hanging around in multiplayer lobbies living in a dream world where they are superior. So how do you recognize these people? Often their accounts have a ridiculous low gamerscore, which makes it extra suspecious if they´ve been a gold member for some years. Because a lot of times this isn´t their real account, this account is what they use to annoy others. This is also how they can catch a lot of negative comments and even being banned by Xboxlive without having to feel the harm of that on their real account. So how do I know that? Well I called people out on that, I told them they are playing on fake account or I made fun of their gamerscore. Within minutes I would get a message, often one full of insults, from another account that would have a higher gamerscore and often more years of gold membership. I would like to add that I don´t make fun of other accounts unless they´re being extremely annoying, I´m only human so I´ll do what I must to impress the monkey ancestors!
Where do you encounter people like this? You´ll find these type of accounts often in popular multiplayer games or games where cheating seems to be going on a lot. A good example of a game full of cheaters is Max Payne 3, you´ll be in for a lot of annoying moments when you discover other people are invisible or invincible. But of course you´ll also find these type of accounts on Black Ops 2 and Battlefield 3, actually every popular game with a multiplayer could be considered as a potential fake or extra account haven. I would like to add that I don´t mind when people have more than one account, there is nothing wrong with having more than one account. But when you use that account to annoy, bully or just insult others then you really have no business online. Another trademark of these people are when they stay on the maximum level of multiplayer (so they don´t go into prestige mode), this means they´ll have all the weapons and equipment. They like to use this to camp somewhere or hold a certain area with their more powerful weapons and equipment. It´s not against the rules, but it´s not a brave way of playing. When you encounter people like this, ignore them and if possible try to stay away from them. They´re a waste of time and not fun to play with, because if someone enjoys hurting other people then that´s someone you can miss in your gamer experience!
So everyone that only plays multiplayer is unfriendly? I wouldn´t go that far, I´m certain there are people out there that just enjoy multiplayer and don´t feel like wasting time on single player. For someone like me who enjoys single player that´s almost unthinkable but I believe people like that exist. I would tell you to be careful, these die hard multiplayer gamers are usually passionate about it, so don´t be suprised if some take the game a bit too seriously. But one gamer doesn´t define another, so even if one multiplayer only gamer is an idiot that doesn´t make the other the same. The truth is that you´ll meet friendly and unfriendly people in multiplayer, it´s not always based on their play style or preference in gaming. Another thing I´d like to add to this is that sometimes people have a secondary account and it makes sense if they don´t wish to play through the single player again, but then I really have to wonder why they would want to go with another account in multiplayer? Does that have a positive or a negative reason? But once again it doesn´t have to be a bad thing, it really depends what you do with your secondary account and it´s not always for bad reasons.
How will these multiplayer only people respond to GTA V? It´s interesting to see that GTA V only has single player available at launch on the 17th of September, if you want to play the multiplayer you´ll have to wait till the 1st of October. I don´t think that will keep people from buying the game at launch, maybe some won´t play the game that much and just impatiently await the 1st of October so they can dive into the multiplayer. But it might also make the single player more interesting, even for people who normally prefer to play multiplayer. I don´t know if this was done with a reason or that multiplayer isn´t exactly ready, whatever the reason is I´m certain that a lot of people will play the single player and that there will also be quite a lot of multiplayer fans in it. And why not? Just because you prefer multiplayer doesn´t mean that it´s forbidden to play single player!
