Living up to expectations
I think it´s not a secret when I tell you that GTA V is available tomorrow, I´d even believe it if you´ve pre-ordered it yourself. I have pre-ordered it months ago, so I shouldn´t have a problem to get it. It´s really one of the games I´ve been looking forward to this year and I think I´m not the only one. All the nice trailers really show a great game, especially the multiplayer seems to look like it will entertain you for quite some time. But what if it´s not as great as we all think, what if the game is going to suck? I have to admit that it wouldn´t be the first time, I mean we´ve probably all bought games that didn´t turn out as great as you´d hope they would be. Especially when it´s a game that you´ve been looking forward to, that really hurts if the game can´t live up to the expectation you have of it.
When games don´t live up to your expectation then you feel robbed, you feel like you´ve wasted money on something that is clearly not worth the money you spend on it. With some games you notice it quite early, others take a little longer for you to figure out. Dragon Age 2 was a game I first defended, I didn´t had the character and I do like the companions. Sure it´s a shame that you can´t pick your own race for your character or his or her background, also it´s a shame that you can´t have the same companions in Dragon Age 2. But let´s be serious, a new character but with the same companions seems wrong. But how they copied so many dungeons or even rooms to be exactly the same, it just seems a bit cheap and lazy. I did like the story though, so it´s definately not a bad game. It was a disappointment, something that isn´t weird in a game series. You have high hopes and those hopes aren´t always realized in a game.
Low expectations give you a better chance on a good game? It would be that weird, but I´d say that it´s not how I want to look at a new game. Still it´s not a bad idea to not get too excited about something because the disappointment will just be bigger. But this is a negative way of looking at it, sometimes games actually do live up to your expectations or go far beyond that. When I played the legend of Zelda: the ocarina of time I thought that it would be a good game, but the moment I started playing it I thought it was the best game I ever played. Sometimes games can really suprise you, it´s not always bad and a good suprise often make a game feel even better then it really is. Fable is another game that suprised me, I thought it was fun but it turned out to be a hilarious and a great game! But I have to admit that with both games I didn´t have high expectations, I was just curious and decided to buy the games and try them out. Perhaps that´s the smartest way of looking at it, don´t be to excited but it wouldn´t hurt if you´re looking forward to a game. Maybe it´s also the waiting time that plays a role in your opinion, if you had to wait a long time for a game then you probably expect more of it. Not every game can live up to that expectation, which is a shame but I find it a bit unfair to put waiting time in your opinion about a game.
Just another title in a series of games or is it more? I think Rockstar has done a great job with their games, sure not every game was as much fun as the other but they´ve definately made some memorable games. I´ve discoverd Rockstar through GTA III, a friend loaned the game to me and I had a lot of fun with that game. So it didn´t come as a suprise that I bought other titles like Bully, GTA Vice City, GTA San Andreas, GTA IV, Red Dead Redemption, LA Noire and Max Payne 3. They´ve made some amazing games and even people who don´t like all of these games will probably admit that they´ve made some great games, so the expectations are high for GTA V. Especially with all the new things in this game. For example three main characters and you can switch between them, a huge open world as we´ve never seen before in a GTA game and the multiplayer that looks like a lot of fun playing with or against eachother. It might be difficult not to be impressed by this, especially when you´re a GTA fan.
Of course you always have people who´ll have something to complain about, people who can see that tiny problem that seems like the world to them. You´ll always have people like that, there is no use to argue or complain about that. Besides GTA is not for everyone, I´m certain that there will be plenty of people who are absolutely sick of hearing anything about GTA V. I won´t blame them, it´s not fun to be bothered by something that completely doesn´t interest you. But you´ll just have to find a way through these days, because now everyone will talk about GTA V and probably show off things on youtube or probably anywhere that is possible. It´s just the way things are, you can fight it but you´ll most likely lose. I just hope that GTA V will be a lot of fun, also that it will keep me busy for more than a week because I´d like to move on from single player to multiplayer without getting bored in single player. As much fun as it might be to blow things up, it gets old if you do it for days. So I guess we´ll all just have to be patient until the 1st of October when multiplayer becomes available in GTA V. Anyway for all you die hards that are going to get the game at the midnight launch I wish you good luck and for the rest I hope you enjoy the game tomorrow. I´ll probably have more to say about GTA V once I´ve played it a bit to have a better opinion about it.
