What I would like to see in Fortnite PvE
It might surprise you but I still play Fortnite PvE, mostly for the daily objectives and getting the daily rewards but I still show up in PvE. Unfortunately not everyone does that anymore, the PvE servers feel empty and the only people that seem to be active are either interested in storm shield defense missions or leeching. There might be other type of players active but I haven't seen those since the Halloween event. This year Fortnite PvE will be free for everyone and that will probably draw in a lot of new players but if Epic doesn't change some important parts about PvE then it wouldn't surprise me that PvE is going to run empty sooner or later! So here are certain things I would like to see in PvE.
Do your own thing.
I really don't like certain missions you have to do in PvE. Repair the shelter and evacuate the shelter are two good examples of missions I hate. They're frustrating, they're boring, tough with a team and very difficult on your own to complete. So nothing that really makes you want to play those missions, except the game will constantly force you to play these missions if you want to make progress with the story. I think that's dumb, because nobody wants to play these missions and unless you're at the exact same point as other players you could be stuck there for quite some time because nobody is playing that mission and so you must try to complete it on your own which is not easy to say the least! I noticed in the Halloween event, also in the Winter event, that most of the missions could be completed in whatever type of mission you wanted to do. It was mostly about collecting items, finding items or clicking on certain items. This means you can do this in any mission you want to and this saves you the trouble of having to deal with annoying missions. What's also great is that you don't need other players to complete this mission, you can team up if you want to or on a slow day, with not that many people online, you could just do it on your own. You can do your own thing and play in your own way. I think that's what PvE should be about and not forcing people to play the same annoying missions over and over again.
Better rewards.
The rewards for a lot of missions are quite underwhelming, a bit of experience or some green or blue schematics at best. That's a joke! Is that a good motivation to complete a frustrating mission? No it's not! Sometimes you might get a purple schematic but often this is a survivor and as useful as they are that's usually the type of reward that motivates you to go through a lot of frustration. There is now a reward system in play that allows you to trade in gold, that you earn if you complete missions, against rewards that will change each week. I like this idea so it's at least rewarding to complete missions and you can pick a reward you like. This is a much better system than the loot or should I say gamble llamas that might get you something good but most likely will get you something you don't need or want. I really hope this reward system stays active after the Winter event but I get a feeling that it might go away after the event, which would suck. If people don't get good rewards or can earn up to getting good rewards then what is the point of playing? The loot llamas aren't a good way to get good rewards, they're way to random and most of the time will give you a blue schematic at best. Which is fine for some time but I think most of the players will want the purple and orange schematics for some epic and legendary loot.
A you get what you do experience reward system.
I already mentioned leechers and these are a problem in PvE. You finally find other people to play with and then they just stand still at spawn the entire time or build a small wooden structure to hide in for the duration of the mission to get some easy experience. This sucks, to say the least, and nobody wants people like that in their game. So instead of just giving people all the experience they can get together you earn up individually some experience. So if someone builds a lot, for example a constructor then he or she will get points for that and those points will be translated into experience. If someone gets a lot of kills, for example a soldier or ninja, then he or she will get experience for that. Outlanders can help with gathering resources but most people playing as an outlander usually help with killing or building, unless they're leeching or farming materials and then leave the match. This brings me to the other frustration people often have to deal with in PvE, people that join your mission and farm materials and then leave. They're taking up a spot that's there for people that want to help with the mission and not a random douchebag that screws you over. There is nothing wrong with farming materials but do that in a private mission, you don't have to do that in public missions! For that reason I think it's a good idea that people can't keep the items they farm in a public mission if they leave before the mission is over. In private missions that's fine but they can't do that in a public misison. Going back to the experience reward system, I think people should get rewarded for what they do and not for what they don't do. So if you do nothing you get nothing, if you do a little bit then you get rewarded a little bit and if you do a lot you get rewarded with a lot of experience. I think that's fair and this makes people hopefully more active and play more on their strengths. So play the role you play as, I don't mind constructors that want to fight or outlanders that want to help with the fighting but that's not really their role. Of course they can earn experience for that but if you pick a constructor then my guess is that you enjoy building, unless you have a daily quest that requires you to play as a constructor but there are private missions for that. This isn't a system to screw people over but hopefully stop the leeching and make people a bit more active in their roles.
This makes the game more fun?
I hope so, there is no guarantee and I doubt that Epic is going to change much with PvE. They've been quiet about it and there are still bugs and glitches in PvE that have been there for quite some time. It kind of gives me the impression that Fortnite PvE might be on its last legs. I really hope it's not because I still think it can be a fun experience. But there is need for some serious changes because leaving things as they are is just a bad idea. I know most people enjoy PvP right now but it's a shame to let PvE die. I think it deserves some attention and it definitely needs some! So hopefully PvE will be better this year or it will most likely be the end of that part of Fortnite which would be a big shame!
