My favourite game of 2017
There were a lot of good games in 2017 so it's difficult to just pick one, but when you put everything together I do have a game that was for me the best because it was just so good and so much fun to play. But before I get to that I do want to talk a bit about all the games I like in 2017. These are all games I enjoyed playing and one of them is my favourite. But which one? Well I'll tell you that at the end.
Going on an adventure!
I love to go on an adventure, to see places that I haven't seen before and meet people I never met before. To go where no one else has gone, which is a lot easier in a game than in real life and it's also a lot cheaper! In Resident Evil 7 I had a spooky adventure and eventhough I probably wouldn't be too happy with that in real life, as in dealing with real monsters, I love that in a game. Such a great game and so much fun for the player, of course the first playthrough is the one that really gets to you but as creepy as the game was it never got to me that badly. It did have some really nasty moments that made me uncomfortable, for example to go into the basement of the Baker house and later on the ship. That was fucking creepy! The space adventure of Mass Effect Andromeda got a lot of complaints and I was one of those people that complained, but looking at the big picture I did enjoy playing the game. Mostly because of the exploration, the characters and the adventure. Space travel is the ultimate adventure so I couldn't leave this game out. The game has got some patches so it's better now, still not as good as I would like it to be but definitely not as terrible as some people try to make it look. Another spooky adventure for me in The Evil Within 2 was actually not that scary. Ok I say not so scary but I do remember that singing ghost woman, now that was unpleasant to say the least! I have to admit that the game was not as intense as the first one but this was still a pretty good game that I enjoyed playing. Several times I got to enjoy some stealth kills, brutal kills and discovering new disturbing things in STEM. With Ghost Recon Wildlands I went on an adventure in Bolivia which was very enjoyable, wether you play that on your own or with friends you're in for some excitement and explosions. But the cool thing is that you can also go for a stealth approach and wipe an entire base clean without anyone ever knowing you were there. It's so satisfying to kill everyone in a location and they never realized you were there until it was too late.
Fight for your life!
Several times I played games that made me have to step up, no longer in the comfortable gaming zone but in the super try hard zone where you have to do your best to win. This happened in Fortnite where I had to do my best to win in certain situations when you have people on your team that are just not helping with the objective. The game offers you a lot to do and it really pains me to see the game (PvE) in such a terrible state these days. But I do remember the early days in July and August 2017, it was such a blast to play that game and to actually make progress in the story because people were still playing PvE. Another game that made me step up is Injustice 2, who knew that I would love playing a fighting game that much! The characters are looking good, a lot of them are fun to play and even if you're terrible at fighting games, like me, then you still have a chance with certain characters because they're more friendly for people who aren't that good. I enjoyed the story and also how the characters respond to eachother, that really brought the game to live and made it so much fun to play. But the fight against Brainiac almost made me lose my shit, I was so bad at the game that it took me several attempts to beat him in the story. In my defense I don't play a lot as Superman so I hardly knew any of his abilities which makes the fight even harder. In W2K18 I got to play as some of my own created wrestlers, which is still my favourite thing to do in these games, and as long as I'm not playing on easy I'm always in for quite fight! Ok once again I'm terrible at these type of games but the character customization options are just so much fun that I sometimes spend more time on creating characters than fighting with them. I know that some people complain that the game looks a lot like the previous games but I think that the games have improvements and the extra wrestlers are also a good thing. Plus more characters means more customization options, so I'm definitely happy with that!
Stories that could tear your heart out!
I always love a good story and that makes it worth it to go through sometimes frustrating or boring moments in certain games. As long as the story is good then the game can never be that bad! The Guardians of the Galaxy game is so much fun, I heard that some don't like but I absolutely enjoyed it! The game captures the essence of the movie so well and add some cool music into the game. Put on top of that some hilarious characters and the way they treat eachother and you're in for some hilarious adventures! The game starts really strong with the first two episodes and then it goes a bit mediocre in episode 3 and 4 but the game redeems itself strongly in episode 5. It was such a blast to play that game and I can definitely recommend anyone to play this game, especially if you love the movies. Another great game with a great story that came out in 2017 is Life is Strange Before the Storm I have to admit that I didn't see that game coming and eventhough my first reaction was a bit confusing I loved the idea of it. I just hoped that the developers wouldn't mess up and they didn't. The game is so much fun to play and has such a strong story about friendship and love that it would made me feel amazing one moment and terrible another moment. The game has such a strong message and make you feel so alive and aware at certain moments.
So which one do you like the most?
A difficult choice but considering I love stories that much and that you should always leave the best for last means that there can only be one winner for me and that is Life is Strange Before the Storm. Why? Because the game is so amazing! How at certain moments it grabs you by your heart and makes you feel so much, maybe too much at certain times. The music that plays the melody of your soul and just puts you in a trance while you listen to two people argue or comfort eachother. It's like you watch the story of two people and yet at the same time it feels like your watching your own story as well. The game made me feel so much and it was quite intense at moments. For example the moment where Rachel screams at the end of episode one was such a powerful moment, combined with what happened next it amost set my heart on fire. But also the moments Chloe spends with her dad are so good, they're full of emotions and they feel so natural. I think anyone that has ever lost someone important to them might be able to relate to that. My favourite moments are the moments that Chloe and Rachel are having fun and their friendship is so much fun to experience, even if it's just in a game. There were so really tough choices in the game but no matter what you do you can't stop the inevitable, which is tough but that didn't make the game bad. The game gave so much and it was such a joy and an experience to play that, so I don't regret a thing and I can only hope that Life is Strange 2 will be just as good if not better. This might not be a popular opinion but I think that Life is Strange Before the Storm is even better than Life is Strange, I like the friendship between Chloe and Rachel more than the friendship between Chloe and Max plus it's a lot more fun to play as Chloe than as Max.
Of course there are a lot of other great games in 2017 and don't think because I didn't mention them that I think any different about them. These were just some examples of the games that I had a lot of fun playing and even if that fun was for a short time it was still worth it in my opinion. I had a great year playing games and I can't wait for all the fun games that come out this year!
