Gaming communities that are or turned toxic, what happened?
There's a reason why I enjoy playing single player games, you don't have to deal with other people. Don't get me wrong I actually do enjoy playing games with other people but in some gaming communities things are just so toxic that it's very difficult to enjoy yourself playing that game unless you can play with friends. If you join the solo queue then you're in for some frustration and toxic behaviour. But not every gaming community started this way, somehow something happened that made it turn into this and all we can hope for is that we can turn it back to something better or should we just ignore these type of games and hope for something less toxic in the future?
Gaming communities are turning into a toxic environment?
Usually in the first couple of weeks everyone is happy with the new game, perhaps people are busy with certain things like unlocking achievements/trophies or exploring the maps, but there comes that time when things turn toxic. That moment where people have no patience, no decency and become annoyed at the first sign of trouble. I've seen this happen several times in gaming communities, for example Overwatch, Fortnite and Destiny 2. These games started fun and were fun to play, but once people turn toxic the game is a lot less fun to play. I'm not saying that everyone is toxic in these games, there are still friendly and patient people that play these games but the chance of getting a toxic player in your team is just much bigger. So be warned if you join the solo queue, the chance on getting a toxic player is much bigger than getting a friendly player.
What makes a gaming community turn toxic?
Ranked game mode is often one of the things that makes people toxic. Under normal circumstances people just play for fun, there are no stakes and that makes things usually pretty relaxing to play. But with ranked mode there are leaderboards and some people who see a dream of becoming a professional gamer. So people get really pissed when things aren't going their way. I'm not going to lie, I've been pissed at people in ranked mode when I try to get good results and there are people who pick useless characters or do nothing with their character. This happens a lot in Overwatch where people will pick certain characters just to mess with the team and pretty much put you on the path to lose. Then there are the massive amount of rage quitters that make it that much harder to win. But Fortnite Battle Royale doesn't have a ranked mode so what makes people so toxic there? There are stats that keep track of your total amount of wins so some people are madly in love with that and want to have the most wins. I know it's sad but these people exist unfortunately. In Destiny 2 things can get ugly during a nightfall strike or raid, people that have no patience with new players or just want to rush themselves and keep getting themselves and the team killed with that. It's difficult sometimes to find decent people to play games with, it's not impossible but sometimes it can feel that way in certain games.
How toxic are some of these gaming communities?
Yesterday Epic had a problem with the Fortnite servers and you weren't able to play the game for quite some time. If you just read all these messages (thousands of messages by the way) under these update messages you can clearly see how toxic that community is and that's just on Xbox One. People who insult Epic, people that insult other players for the slightest reason, some guy saying he's a god at the game with just two wins on his profile, people charging other people money if they want to be carried by that person, a guy pretending to be a girl and looking for more followers, people demanding a blue pump shotgun, people demanding V-Bucks from Epic, some people saying that they're done with Fortnite and will never play it again, people that say that they'll buy PUBG and delete Fortnite, people whining about how this ruined their day and my personal favourite are comments from people who say they had to work or go to school all day and that one day in the week that they're free this happens. Oh the humanity of it all! Yes it sucks that the servers are offline but constantly bitching and moaning about it won't bring them back online any faster. If you honestly sit there waiting for the servers to come back online then you honestly need to get out more, because who does that? I think that Epic should check for all the hate comments and just have this people banned from the game, a bunch of ungrateful douchebags that complain about a free game and demand compensation from a free game because they're dumb enough to sit there waiting for hours for getting back in the game. Why aren't you playing another game or do something else with your time? If you're honestly that dumb to sit there for ten hours waiting then you're an idiot. It's a shame when there are technical issues but it's not the end of the world, some people are just so spoiled and full of drama that the slightest problem sets them off. To think that this is the future of humanity, I don't know about you but by the looks of these type of comment sections I get the feeling that humanity is screwed!
