Escape into a game world
It's so tempting to start up a game and lose yourself in the game world, just to forget your every day troubles and not having to think about the pain you have to endure in real life. It's so easy to just jump into that fantasy world and live a completely different life, but sooner or later you have to come back to the real world and that doesn't make things easier. Sometimes it's even harder because you're not dealing with your troubles, you run away from them and when they catch up with you it feels like things have gotten worse. So is it a smart idea to escape into a game world or should you just face your troubles and deal with them directly?
Running away doesn't help?
Running away hardly ever helps you with solving something, it often makes things worse or at least things won't solve themselves. So running away doesn't really help you, it can make things worse or just don't help you with solving whatever it is that's bothering you. That doesn't mean that playing a game can't help, it can actually help but you shouldn't do it for the wrong reasons. When you're feeling sad a game can make you feel better or at least help you forget about your sadness for some time, but it's important that you don't hide yourself in the game and try to make the problems go away. As much as it sucks you will have to face your problems and deal with them, running away into a game world isn't going to solve anything!
Games can give you comfort?
But as much as I would advice you not to use games as a place to hide I can recommend to use games as a way to heal or mend a wound. If you're hurting and you don't know how to move forward a game can help you feel better. Even if it's just for a short time and it only helps a bit, games can definitely make a difference if you find the right game for you. For me it wouldn't be a first person or third person shooter, nor would it be a survival horror game or a racing game. I would need a game that lets me go on an adventure and where I can make a difference, hopefully that gives me the courage to face my own problems. But I wouldn't use the game as a place to hide, but a place to gather strength and a place to find some comfort. Sometimes people can't give you that, even when they try their best it's just not possible for these people to reach you. Games can sometimes do what people can't do and that is make you feel better. I'm not saying that games are the best way to heal or that playing games will always make you feel better, but I am saying that they can make you feel better and that they can help some people. I know that it's so tempting to run away and hide in a game, to just let life pass you by and stay safe in your fantasy world. But it doesn't solve your problems nor does it make them go away. Games can help you but sooner or later you will need to help yourself or find other people to help you. Because no matter how much fun games are they're just games, they can't do everything for you!
