Sinful Sunday: Annoyed with every little thing in a game
Games aren't always frustrating from the start, sometimes it takes some time before it starts to annoy you. I think it's because at first you're still new to the game, you're happy to play the game and you might be a bit more tolerable towards these minor frustrations. But after a week you might be less tolerable towards these minor frustrations, up to the point where you're very annoyed with all the things that go wrong or go differently than you want them to go.
Can you avoid the frustration?
Sure, just don't play the game. Ok that was a lame answer but honestly what do you expect? It's not that you can truly avoid frustration in a game, but you can handle it better. Instead of constantly putting yourself through frustration you can take a break from the game, sometimes that's all you need to avoid more frustration. It's the constant build up of frustration that will make you so annoyed with a game that even the slightest issue can become huge in your eyes. For example in the Sims 4 I will sometimes get so annoyed when the game is stuck for a moment, when I open a fridge or sometimes just during a random action, and I know that this sometimes happens but it really pisses me off when I'm in a hurry. I want to reach the top of a career and you constantly get slowed down with this and it happens quite frequently at certain times which makes playing the game very frustrating! So you can sit through that, just accept that this is in the game, or you can stop and play another game. I noticed that switching to another game is often a smart idea, it takes the frustration you have with the game you were playing away and if the other game you picked is a lot of fun you will soon forget about the frustration you had with the previous game.
What should you do when games become too frustrating to play?
It's probably a good idea to avoid frustration but if that's impossible or you're just too stubborn to stop playing then I would suggest to take a break. Pushing yourself into high levels of frustration isn't a good thing and it will really start pissing you off if you expose yourself to this frustration a lot more than you should. I understand that you want to beat the game, that you want to make progress or unlock some achievements/trophies but you should always keep in mind that sometimes it's not worth it when you have to go through that much frustration. Turning into a raging asshole doesn't really look like a lot of fun, unless you're looking at the video of someone being frustrated with a game but in truth I wouldn't recommend playing games that annoy you that much. Especially not games that frustrate you so easily with every little thing. So does that mean I can't play the Sims 4? Well I can, but I also realize that I shouldn't play it for too long because the longer you play it the more frustrating it becomes. So I prefer to stick to an hour or two at most, just to keep myself sane and not fall victim to frustration.
