Take a risk with a game or stick with what you know?

When I want to buy a game I like to do some research about that game, because the last thing I want is to buy a game that is lame. Not only is that a waste of money but it's pretty much also a waste of space on your harddrive and of your time. So it's smart to do a bit of research before you buy a game, but sometimes there are moments where you have to act quickly. A game is for sale and it looks really interesting, are you going to buy it or are you going to play it safe? I'm not going to pretend that I never made mistakes but sometimes it is worth it to take a chance, but I would strongly listen to my gut feeling and if that's feeling is good then I don't mind taking a chance every now and then.

Stick with the games you know?

When you buy a lot of games that suck or that just didn't make you happy playing them then you'll be more careful with your next purchase. The last thing you want is to buy another game that sucks, so you'll probably think twice before you want to buy a new game. But it does help if you're familiar with a previous game in the same game series or a similar game. That makes it easier to decide if you would be interested in this new game or not. I often stick with games I know or at least know something about, that way the chance on buying a game I don't like is a lot smaller but I have to admit that sometimes I also branch out. Try something new and take a chance with certain games. For example I've never played a Monster Hunter game and I decided to take a chance with Monster Hunter World and I have to say that the game doesn't disappoint so far. But it's a risk, I didn't know much about the game and I never played any of the other Monster Hunter games so it was a bit of a gamble but after hearing several positive reactions from other people I do feel more confident about taking a chance with a game. But at the same time I do realize that because some people like a game it doesn't automaticly means that I'll like it too.

Is it worth taking a risk with a game?

Sometimes it's definitely worth it. When Dragon Age Origins was first announced I had a good feeling about the game, I bought it and never had any regrets. Did I do some research on that game? Sure, but it was still a gamble because I didn't know that much about the game and I don't play a lot of RPGs. So it always remains to be seen if the game you're interested in is actually worth it. More recently I bought Broken Sword 5, this comes from my previous encounters with the Broken Sword game series. I played the first game and third game from the Broken Sword game series. But I didn't know much about the fifth game, but the moment it was for sale I bought it because I really enjoyed the first and third game. So yeah I took a chance and I didn't regret it! Which is always a big relief but unfortunately you don't always get that lucky. Last year I discovered that with Friday the 13th the game, the game looked really fun but it turned out the game was really bad. The only way to truly enjoy that game is with a group of friends and a lot of patience. Lack one of these two things and you're in for some frustration. But it's ok, we all make mistakes sometimes and from mistakes you learn and I now know not to jump too quickly on games I'm not certain about and try not to follow the hype of certain games. Make your own choices and above all follow your gut feeling, because who cares what other people say when your gut feeling is saying something else! Always trust your instincts, especially when it comes to buying games. So far I made a lot of good decisions thanks to my gut feeling.
