One good moment can save a bad game?

We've all been there, you bought a game that turned out not to be as much fun as you hoped it would be. Maybe at first you were still hopefully but sooner or later you realize that the game isn't that much fun for you. It's easy to stop playing but if you payed money for the game then you can just as well finish it just to be done with it. And then it happens, that one moment in the game that just makes you think that it actually wasn't such a bad game. Is that for real or am I just making that up? Well it has happened, when one moment in a game can make things better but to truly make a bad game good seems unlikely to me.

Bad games can have good moments in them?

Sure, not every game is amazing from start to finish. I've played games that were lame from the start but got better the further I got. Sometimes it's also the other way around, when a game is fun at first but has a terrible ending. I think that's actually worse, because I'd rather go through some unpleasant stuff and have a good ending that I'm happy with than have a fun game that has a terrible ending. That might seem odd but it's often the ending that stays with you best, so if that sucks it's often easy to remember a game as being bad eventhough it was just the ending that was bad. I think Mass Effect 3 is a good example of that, I know some people don't mind the ending(s) but I didn't like them and it has tainted the entire game for me with that. In a way you should never finish Mass Effect 3 and you have an pretty good game, but the moment you finish it you're just slapped in your face for all your hard work during all three games. But sometimes games can be underwhelming, just not as good as you thought and then you need that moment in the game that makes you want to keep on playing. This happened to me in L.A. Noire. I had high hopes for this game when it launched and at first it was ok but I got tired of it really fast, it was thanks to part where you're a homicide detective that I actually enjoyed playing the game. It made everything that happened before and after tolerable. I prefer games that are fun most of the time but sometimes all you need is just one good moment to keep you in the game, because if a game is just bad and not fun at all to play then you really have to ask yourself why you're still playing it!

Would you buy a game just for one good moment in it?

Not at full price, because it's ridiculous that you would pay full price for a game you're not that happy with. No matter how amazing that one moment might be is that truly worth 60 Dollars or Euros? I don't think so! I like playing games and I like fun moments in games but I prefer not to buy games that aren't worth the full price. Sometimes it's better to be patient and wait for a sale and buy the game for half the price or maybe even less money than that. Unfortunately you don't always know if a game will be good or bad or if the game even has a good moments in it. That's why I prefer to do some research before I buy a game and try to learn as much about a game I'm interested in before I buy it. I do try to avoid spoilers but unfortunately that sometimes can't be avoided when you do some research into a game. Last year I did buy Resident Evil 6, not because I was so madly in love with that game but because the game had some fun moments I enjoyed. For example the first two levels in the Leon campaign are pretty good and especially for the first time that's fun when you play that with a friend. But Resident Evil 6 isn't a very good game and I wouldn't have bought it, again, for full price. But when you can buy it for only eight Euros then it seems like a good deal to me!
