YouTube adventures -81- Watching someone else play a game is stupid?
I noticed this video from 2015 where an American talkshow host talks about YouTube gaming channels and how he thinks it's sad and lame to watch someone else play a game. It probably wouldn't surprise you but he got a lot of hate for that. Eventhough I don't agree with giving someone hate for that I do think it's dumb to talk shit about something you don't know much about. Because there are YouTubers out there that have a career with making gameplay or should I say let's play videos. So it's actually quite rude to talk shit about that when you don't even know what you're talking about.
Watching someone else play a game is stupid?
I didn't watch a lot of videos on YouTube in the early days, YouTube wasn't that big and I didn't really see the worth of it back then. But now it's like a daily thing for me to do, watch some videos and even try to upload some videos myself. Things change and eventhough I don't consider myself to be a real YouTuber, I don't have a big channel and it's just a hobby for me, I do enjoy doing what I do. Having fun making videos usually makes it more fun to watch them, which also explains why some people enjoy watching videos. When someone else is having fun it can often also make you happy. It seems weird but that's how it works for some people.
I used to make longer videos and even made playthrough videos for certain games. For example the Evil Within, Diablo III, Resident Evil and Dark Dreams Don't Die. These videos aren't interesting for everyone. I mean I understand that some people think it's lame watching someone else play a game, but there are people actually enjoy watching others play a game. Some people are especially talented with making enjoyable videos and it's a lot of fun to watch them play a game. It's not even really the gameplay itself but the way he or she would react to certain moments in the game or just the commentary that can be a lot of fun.
Unfortunately I'm not talented so for me it's mostly just standard commentary with maybe some jokes, but the point is doing what makes you happy and if I make a shitty video but it makes me happy making it then that's not a bad thing. Even if people aren't really interested in watching it then it's still something you made and something you can enjoy. It really depends what your goal is behind the video. Do you want to get a lot of views and likes? Then you better make it good or at least make it interesting enough for people to watch your video. But if you don't care about the amount of views or likes then you can just do whatever you want.
I don't think it's lame to watch others play a game, it can actually be a lot of fun. You're pretty much going on an adventure with the YouTuber through the game and that can be a lot of fun. But also watching a group of friends play can be fun. I mean just watch some people play Mario Kart, Mario Party or Monopoly and you will have a great time watching people go crazy. I do think that you shouldn't watch videos all day. Play some games yourself or go outside and get some fresh air. There is nothing wrong with watching other people play games but doing that all day long might be a bit too much. The videos will be there tomorrow as well, it's not like you have to see it all in one day!
