You're so powerful in this game...or not?
Sometimes developers are trying to make the players aka potential buyers believe that they're going to be so awesome in their game. You get these amazing powers, cool gadgets and you'll be able to do incredible things in the game. But honestly, how powerful are you really in these games? Often when something seems too good to be true then it often is.
You're not as powerful as the developers wanted you to believe?
I think that counts for most games because developers like to make things look better than they really are. I mean if you try to sell a game and be completely honest then that game will be less interesting, but make things look and sound a bit more awesome then they really are and you have a better chance of making your game look good and you probably sell more copies of that game. The problem is that the players will figure out soon enough how powerful your character is in the game often this results in disappointment, which is nothing new but it still sucks every time. Destiny and especially Destiny 2 is a great example of that. A game where you look pretty good, have some cool abilities but in the first heroic public event on your own you realize that you're nothing. I mean the Cabal public event already has that stupid space ship that keeps shooting explosive shots at you, that will fuck you up faster than you can say: "are those explosives?" But pretty much most enemies seem to have explosive weapons in that game, which means you will often take damage and that will prevent you from regenerating your health which then makes it harder to stay alive in tough fights. Of course experienced players will know how to handle that but a new player or less skilled player will have a tough time and feel like he or she got swindled. You're this powerful guardian that saved the world several times now and you die to some random flunky in a random fight? Yeah super powerful guardian indeed...
United you're invincible?
Well maybe not invincible but you're definitely stronger and games like Destiny 2 and also Overwatch try to convince you of that. Don't charge the enemy on your own, work as a team and nothing can stop you. Ok maybe some nasty moments in the raid but since you need a team in the raid anyway you might as well play as a team. This is my biggest complaint of games like Destiny 2, you're nothing without a team and without a team you can't even acces the most interesting and rewarding parts of the game. No raid, no trials of the nine, no nightfall and also no crucible. Ok the crucible you can enter in solo queue but since most people enter that as a team you will often find yourself up against a team and as a solo queue player that's not a lot of fun! It sucks how this is your game, this have to play with other people to actually be able to get the most out of the game. I can complain about Destiny 2 but Destiny was the same and unfortunately these aren't the only games that have this issue. More and more you're forced to work together and maybe then that powerful hero comes into play but honestly if my power lies into working with strangers then I think I'll pass. Where are the solo experiences where you can be powerful on your own? Where are the games where I don't have to run from a fight the moment more than five enemies show up? I know that some people love the increase of difficulty but sometimes it's nice to just be able to crush your enemies, to be able to be that powerful hero some developers promise you can be in their game. It's such a disappointment when this turns out to be a lie or if this is only true if you're in a team. Not that there is anything wrong with teaming up but there are some lone wolves out there that also want to be powerful in a game without having to team up with others!
