I hate Monday: When a game doesn't work

Imagine this, you just saved up 60 Dollars or Euros and you can finally buy that game you were interested in and then when you finally have it the game doesn't work. For some reason the game won't start, it has a lot of bugs and glitches that make it very frustrating to play or the game keeps freezing when you play it. I think it's safe to say that most people would be upset with that and I don't blame them, I would be very upset as well!

Have you ever bought a game that didn't work?

Unfortunately yes, this has happened multiple times to me and the most recent game is Agents of Mayhem which is from just a couple of months ago. I've bought games that were broken in the box, which was a really nasty surprise, and I've bought games that seemed ok at first and then turned to shit soon after. It really makes you wonder if people actually test these games because of those bugs that make the game unplayable are really something you would expect the developers to fix but somehow they stay in the game. My Agents of Mayhem experience is exactly the same way, I kept waiting for the developers to fix the game but after just two patches the issues are still there. At any moment a mission can become bugged and enemies won't spawn or I can't click on the objective which also means you're stuck. The only way to fix it is to either restart a checkpoint or close the game and start it up again. But that's not really fixing it, that's just pure despeation for something broken to work. I actually managed to beat Agents of Mayhem but that was an unpleasant experience at certain moments. For example fighting through an entire mission to find out that at the end the boss fight is bugged so you have to start over. Yeah that doesn't really inspire you to play the game. I really hate it when that happens, when you put so much time into something to just find out that it was all for nothing because the game is broken. That absolutely ruins the fun for me and I have a hard time finding the motivation to keep playing at that point.

What do you do when a game doesn't work?

I usually try to stay calm but there are moments where I'm really frustrated, I mean you just spend a lot of money on a game and the game doesn't work. For example Friday the 13th was like that for me for about two weeks. I bought the game and I just couldn't play it, I mean I could start it up and that's it. Quickplay didn't work and I didn't know anyone else to play a private match with. Only two weeks later they finally fixed the issue and you could play with other people online in quickplay but at that point I really lost interest in the game after all the issues I've had with it. Also keep in mind that the game has a lot of bugs and glitches in it which also make it a frustrating experience at certain times. So yeah you can be patient but honestly when you buy a game you expect it to work, I mean why would you release a game that has that many issues? What also sucks a lot is when you buy a PC game and you find out at home that you can't play the game on your computer because your hardware is outdated. That's so frustrating and at that point you have to decide if you want to return the game or decide to invest in your computer, again, to be able to play this new game. I've done that several times actually and that can be an expensive joke, which really makes me lean more towards console games because that usually means that you can always play the game you buy. Unless the game is a piece of shit that has a lot of issues. So you can be patient, you can invest in your hardware to hopefully be able to play the game or you can just return the game and hope that the next game you buy doesn't suck. Does this make you happy? Nope! But the life of a gamer isn't always happiness, it's sometimes a lot of different emotions at once and they're not always positive unfortunately...
