Sweaty hands on the controller

As a kid I always had sweaty hands on the controller, maybe it was just the way the NES and SNES controllers were or maybe I was just a sweaty nerd. But things changed, I got older and games made me less sweaty and so my hands were no longer sweaty on the controller. Does that mean that games got easier or did I get better? I know that people have different opinions on games and that some would consider older games as harder but lets not forget that there are still new games coming out that aren't that easy! Yesterday I noticed after several years of not having this issues that I had sweaty hands again, the controller almost slipped out of my hands and it made me think back of the good old days.

Nobody likes difficult games?

Some people seem to claim that  games have gotten easier and perhaps they're right. When I play Destiny 2 I don't feel a challenge, it's only in a Nightfall strike or the raid that you notice the difficulty bumping up. But you don't play that on your own, it's meant to be more difficult because you play with more people. Which game actually challenges you alone? Well there are games that will challenge the solo gamer but there aren't many of these games and they're not always that popular either. Except for some I guess, I mean most people have played Dark Souls and/or Cuphead and these gamers know that there are still challenging games that are still fun to play. Going back a bit further I also played the Ninja Gaiden games and those would challenge you as well, it wasn't really a game that was holding your hand and helping you. Defeat would be punished harshly sometimes and that can be rough for some people. I understand that there are people who don't want to deal with that and I don't think there is anything wrong with that. It's not like you have to pass a test to be considered as a gamer. If you enjoy playing games then I consider you as a gamer, no matter what platform or what kind of game you play. Unfortunately there are also people that only consider someone a gamer when you're good at games or play certain games on a certain platform. Honestly what the hell? Since when did gamers turn into elitist douchebags? It once again makes me wish I was back in my teenage years when playing games was often a secret you kept from your friends at school and people just had fun playing games. But things change, sometimes not always for the best...

Sweaty hands strike again?

Going back to what started all this was my experience with difficulty in games, moments that made my hands sweaty as I was trying so hard to beat a game. Yesterday that happened in Cuphead trying to beat a level, it wasn't even that difficult but I just kept making mistakes and before you know it I'm shouting at my screen and my hands are slipping off the buttons on my controller. It was as if I was back in my teenage years, being that sweaty nerd that tried so hard to beat games and I would get so upset when I would fail. I had a friend that would come over to visit every week and he actually got scared of me when I had one of my tantrums while playing a game. He would hide behind a chair and tell me he would come out once I had calmed down. You can laugh about that now but honestly that was of course not good and I did realize that I wasn't a good friend with that kind of behaviour. But it's amazing how games these days can make you think back of the good old days. So all this talk of how games used to be better or harder is just a load of bollocks. Honestly games these days are just as good and at certain points even better. I mean looking at the Telltale games I just wish I had games like that in my teenage years, that would've been awesome! I can say the same about games like Mass Effect or Dragon Age, man I wish I had those type of games in my childhood. But I don't mind playing them now, I mean games have changed and so have I. We're no longer the same person we were ten years ago. We constantly change and that's not just a matter of speech but also in fact the truth. Your cells keep renewing themselves, up to a certain point, so you're no longer the same person you were in the past. We all change but some things stay the same, for example those sweaty hands. I think I keep those for a long time, especially if I keep playing challenging games. But let's be honest, some people just like this and there is nothing wrong with that!
