Cuphead, the game we've all been waiting for?
It took some time but Cuphead is finally here! The amazing looking and quite challenging game will make you look in awe at how cool everything looks but at the same time make you pull out your hair from frustration if a boss is just too tough for you to beat. Cuphead is definitely an interesting game that will be loved by some and hated by others, so in other words it's not that different from other games when it comes to this. But Cuphead is quite original and a lot of people want to play the game for the art style alone. Which is quite understandable and it almost makes you forget how difficult certain parts in the game are.
Cuphead is too difficult?
People like to say this way too fast in my opinion, the moment things aren't going their way they end up saying that the game is too difficult. It probably doesn't surprise you that the game is being compared to Dark Souls, another tough game, but in truth the two games have nothing in common. Sure Cuphead is a bit challenging but it's not insanely difficult, it's all about seeing the pattern in boss attacks and just not rush into a level. There are a lot of enemies and boss fights have multiple stages, so don't celebrate until you see the knockout text on the screen! I don't think Cuphead is too difficult, it's challenging and sure it can frustrate you a lot but the game isn't impossible as some might want to claim. Sometimes you just make dumb mistakes, I know that I've made a lot in my first boss fight, and you just end up coming short towards the end of the fight. Which is why it will most likely take you several attempts to learn the attack pattern of the boss or the layout of the level, this can make all the difference and make a tough fight a bit easier. But let's be honest, did you really want the game to be easy? I mean a game you've been waiting for so long and then you beat it in just a couple of hours? I don't know about you but that seems lame to me! If you really have difficulties with regular difficulty there is an easier difficulty. You can also buy items from the shop, at least if you collect the gold coins in levels, that allow you to buy upgrades such as more health and better fire power. This should make things easier as well. So yeah Cuphead is a challenge but there is nothing wrong with that!
One of the best games of the year?
There are some serious contenders for that title this year but I must admit that Cuphead definitely belongs in the list of nominees. Such a beautiful looking game with fun gameplay is worth mentioning at least! When I look at the game it's like you're looking at one of those old cartoons, except you're the one controlling the main character or characters if you have a friend join you in the game. It's pretty cool that a friend can drop in at any time and take on the role of Mugman, the brother of Cuphead, and you can share the screen. You can also revive eachother if someone runs out of lives. There isn't online multiplayer but I think a lot of people are happy that there is another fun game that they can play with a friend on the couch. Cuphead has a lot to offer and eventhough certain moments are really tough it feels so amazing to beat these tough moments and make it further. That is so much more satisfying than just breezing through a game to victory. I think that Cuphead is definitely worth checking out and for only 20 Euros it's really a bargain! So if you're in for a challenge and like this run and gun type of platformer then Cuphead might just be the game for you!
