Anger doesn't make you better at a game
It's weird how angry you sometimes become at a game or another player because it absolutely serves no purpose and also doesn't help you at all to beat the game or other player. I'd say anger makes you even dumber and thus it becomes even more difficult to beat a game or another player. So the best thing you can do is stay calm and concentrated. Unfortunately most gamers, myself included, do get mad and end up doing even worse in the process.
Anger makes things worse?
It does actually, because you lose your concentration and you often make dumb decisions when you're angry. Imagine someone camping around the corner and you keep going there to kill this person and he or she just keeps killing you, it makes you mad and you keep rushing there only to die again and again. The same can be said about beating a game, for example a boss you just can't beat or a moment in a level that is just too tough for you. First you become frustrated, then that frustration turns into anger and after anger you just give up. But instead of getting angry you can take a break, think about what doesn't work and then try to come up with a solution. It also helps if you practice because don't expect to be amazing at everything in the first or second try. From my own personal experience I can tell you that anger has hardly ever helped me with anything. Oh sure it feels good when you can eliminate an annoying person in a multiplayer match or beat that boss that kept beating you but honestly I hardly ever beat people or enemies in a game when I'm mad. It's when I'm calm and concentrated that I do much better. So why get mad? Oh right because the frustration and stress you build up while playing certain games needs a release and this is often done with anger. At least that's how it works for me.
Why do you get mad?
Because it sucks when you keep dying in a game, no matter how it happens it will get frustrating if it happens a lot. Maybe if you have low expecations or really don't care that this doesn't frustrate you but anyone that has a bit of a try hard attitude inside will get annoyed sooner or later if you keep dying in the game. Some games will also frustrate you more when they have to put a certain text or reply from a character on the screen. That might be funny at first but after fifty times it really loses its charm! I mean not many people become happy when they keep seeing the text loser on their screen or want to hear some asshole taunt you in the defeat screen. But playing a game means that there is always a good chance you lose, so why take the gamble when you know for certain that sooner or later you lose eventually? Well for me it's simple, because despite the frustrating moments playing a game is still fun and as long as fun outweighs the frustration then I don't see myself stopping any time soon. I know that getting angry is like a primitive response but I guess I'm just too much of a caveman to be civilized and mature about it. Yes I get upset when I keep losing, it's not something to be proud of but it's the way it is.
How do you avoid getting mad?
I don't think you can, unless you have some really good tolerance against frustration or just never lose for some magical reason. I think the best way to avoid getting mad is to be one step ahead of the frustration. The moment things go bad you could keep going or you could take a break. I know that it's difficult to put the controller down for a moment but honestly it's better to take a break every now and then or just play another game. I was stuck in Cuphead for some time because I couldn't beat the mad scientist boss for quite some time, I just kept failing at the last part where I was failing so hard at dodging and hitting him at the same time. I just kept trying and trying and things just went from bad to worse. Taking a break from the game and doing something else helped me a lot, I calmed down and went super try hard into my next attempt and almost had a flawless victory (I got hit once in the last part of the fight). Sometimes taking a step back is the best way to make progress in a game. Don't put yourself through frustration and anger but take a break, calm down and then try again. It's not a guarantee for succes but I think it works better than trying it over and over again until you lose your mind.
