I hate Monday: Campers
Don't you hate Mondays? The start of the week when you have to go to school or back to work, it sucks! So I decided to start a new weekly topic where I talk about things I hate and maybe you would hate as well. This isn't a way for me to spit out hate but more a way to talk about things that can be frustrating and how to best deal with that. The first thing I want to talk about are campers, you know those lovely people who sit still in one spot in a multiplayer game for so cheap kills. Such a joy to play with these type of people, absolutely makes the game ten times better...
What's wrong with campers?
I know, camping is a legitimate strategy. I'm not saying that camping is illegal or cheating, I'm saying that camping is a sad way of playing. I actually tried camping in Black Ops once, this almost a decade ago and I noticed that so many people were camping. So I decided to try it myself and I got a lot of kills. But you know what was wrong with it? It was sooooooooo boring! I mean I got tired of it within a minute. Just sitting there waiting for people to show up and then shoot them in the back or in the face, yeah great fun! Sure people get mad at you and yeah that could possibly be fun for some people but honestly why would you want to be that person? Why can't you just move around like the rest of us? Campers slow things down, you can't really run and gun with campers on the map because that will most likely result in your demise. With campers you have to check every corner and move slowly, which sucks out all the fun you can have in a match. This absolutely ruins the whole multiplayer experience for me! Imagine if everyone in the multiplayer match would be camping, imagine you having to watch that. I mean there are more exciting things to do like rolling up your socks than watching a bunch of campers in a game.
Why do people camp?
Often because they suck at a game and they want to get a lot of kills. Honestly have you ever faced a camper one on one when he or she wasn't camping? They suck and will often try to use other cheap tricks like drop shotting or asking their friends for help in a fight because on their own they're often garbage. There are also games that reward people for camping, for example in CoD games you have kill streaks or score streaks and you earn this with getting kills without dying. So the more kills you can get without dying the better rewards you can unlock, which often lead to some overpowered kill or score streak that will get them even more kills. Because of this some people are less likely to move, they will just sit in a corner and hope to get some easy kills. This makes campers in my eyes lazy, because instead of earning it you pretty much want to cheese your way to the reward. But as long as you keep things like kill and score streaks in a game you keep these type of people that have to cheese their way to victory. There are also campers that just want to annoy people, they have this sad urge to ruin the fun of other people by being that guy or girl in the corner. The more hate they get the happier they seem to be, which is really sad and disturbing in my opinion.
How do you deal with campers?
The best thing you can do is ignore them, because they rely on you going to them and if you never go to them they don't get kill unless they move to you and so they're no longer camping. If you really do feel the urge to flush out a camper then bring explosives, this often makes the camper move or kills them instantly. It's actually quite fun killing campers over and over again with explosives in a game, sometimes they even rage quit and show how sad they really are. Unfortunately there are also people that get kill a lot by campers and they will rage quit as well, which shows how sad these people are. I mean it sucks that there are campers but if you keep running up to the camper and get shot in the face or back then you're clearly not learning! Yes campers are frustrating douchebags in a game but they're not breaking any rules with that kind of behaviour. So ignore them or blow them up with explosives. It's the best way to deal with these kind of people, but it would be nice to have a multiplayer game that had no campers in it. It will never happen but it's nice to dream that maybe one day there will be such a game.
