YouTube adventures -62- To stream or not to stream?

Lately I've seen more and more people stream on YouTube, which is nice because it offers the subscribers and people that are new to the channel extra content. But as a YouTuber is it always a good idea to stream? So I can't help but wonder...

Should I stream or not?

The main reason why I don't stream games is because I don't think it will be that entertaining. I don't consider myself as a person who I interesting, so watching me play games is probably going to be lame. For a short video it should be ok, at least I hope so, but when you stream you usually put about an hour if not two of you playing a game or multiple games. I just don't see myself doing this because every time I play games there are frustrating moments for me and when I'm frustrated I say dumb things. Besides streamers are usually people that can talk for hours about all kinds of things, unless they have friends with them and then they'll probably spend time talking with them.

I like to believe that you should stick with what you're comfortable with, so for me that means just upoading some random videos with commentary. Making the jump to streaming is unknown territory for me and I don't feel comfortable with that. Maybe it's good to sometimes explore a bit further than you're comfortable with but when it's recorded and goes on the internet then I'd rather not put myself in that position. I can already see myself talking absolute nonsense or just go silent for five minutes because I'm either concentrating on the game or I don't know what to say.

If you're new to streaming then you might feel the same way, you don't know what to do and it might be a bit scary to try it out. Perhaps it's a good idea to ask a streamer for advice, someone who does streams and he or she could tell you maybe a bit about it. With some luck you get some tips, which could be very useful for people who are new to streaming. But it still comes down to how you feel about it. If you really want to stream then I'd say you should go for it, but if you're uncomfortable with it then you probably shouldn't do it or at least get some more information about streaming to boost your confidence a bit. Don't go in blind, that's a good way to mess it up and make a bad first impression on people.

I think that most people understand that not everyone is going to be a natural at first, you become better at things with experience and we all have to start somewhere. So maybe it's something you can learn, which means that experience is the key to getting better. But I do believe that some people have a natural talent for these kind of things while others are just not cut out for certain things in life. I know it seems unfair but I guess that keeps the world a bit more interesting. If we could all do everything then that would be boring. Life is more interesting if some people have a talent in certain things and other people have a talent in other things. At least that's how I see it.
