Movie Monday: xXx: the return of Xander Cage

Who would have thought that Vin Diesel would return to the xXx movies? I definitely didn't, not that the first movie was bad but it seemed like it was a done deal and they moved on with another actor in the sequel. But sometimes these things happen and now in the third xXx movie you see Vin Diesel again as Xander Cage, but is that a good thing?

More action, more crazy stunts?

 What I like about the xXx movies is the action and stunts, the crazy things that happen and eventhough some of them might be ridiculous to some people it still looks pretty cool. There's no lack of crazy stunts and explosive action in the third xXx movie, but does that also make it better than the previous movies? Well yes and no, mostly thanks to the clash between Xander and Xiang, the leader of a group of terrorists that are also capable of some crazy stunts, because that makes the movie more interesting than your average bad guy with a plan to threaten the world. Eventhough there is this doomsday device, it does surprise me how small of a part it really plays in the story. For some time it's more between the clash between Xander and Xiang and then after a plot twist you suddenly get a whole new perspective in the movie. What's wrong isn't always bad and what seemed to be right doesn't always have to be good.

Is this movie better than the previous xXx movies?

 I think it is, not just because there are a lot of actors in this movie that seem to enjoy themselves, I find it a lot more interesting to watch a movie where the actors are having fun playing their role than watching someone that gets payed to do something and isn't enjoying himself or herself. The crazy stunts and action also gives you a lot of entertainment, from riding with bikes on the water to an interesting ride on a skateboard. Then there are also some surprise visits from some characters of the previous movies. This all together makes the movie quite enjoyable to watch and even if it's not an amazing movie it's still fun to watch!

So it's worth checking this movie out?

 I think it is, not just because of the action and humour but also to unwind after a long day at school or work and just watch a movie that's fun to watch. I don't think this is the type of movie you would watch multiple times, unless you can't get enough of the action, stunts, attractive people walking around with interesting outfits and all the other things that are going on in the movie. So you might want to rent this movie but if you can't get enough of it then it makes sense you buy this movie, I can definitely see myself watching this movie again some day soon. The plot doesn't even really matter in my honest opinion, this is a movie you watch for the tough guys, hot chicks, crazy stunts and explosive action. Is there anything wrong with that? Not to me!

Button bashing

It seems that more and more games want you to smash on the buttons of the controller, which seems like fun but knowing that this weak piece of plastic can´t handle much it´s not the smartest way to handle your controller. In the good old arcade days I could smash on buttons, ok nothing too crazy but at least those machines had a lot more resilience than these weak controllers we have now. You have to pay a small fortune for one of them and they fall apart with the slightest bit of force you use. After smashing a couple of controllers out of frustration I learned to be careful with them, but when games force you to be an agressive button basher it doesn´t really help. Button bashing is nothing new but I do seem to see it in more and more games, even games that could easily do without this abusive way of treating your controller. Sinful Sunday: Why are you so serious?

When I play a game I don't want to be serious, I just want to have fun and relax. Honestly real life is serious enough and I don't need that in games. Who cares who wins or who loses, just have fun and that already makes it great! Unfortunately there are gamers that take certain games way too serious, so serious that they literally forget to have fun which is quite frustrating to deal with. These kind of players are so serious that they probably left the fun behind when they started the game. Sigh... Serious gamers are lame gamers? Mortal Kombat X isn´t just another fighting game?

You´ve probably seen the announce trailer of Mortal Kombat X, then you probably also know that it shows two familiar characters fighting against eachother. At that point you´re probably still thinking that it´s just more of the same but with a better coat of paint, I understand that pessimist look and it´s not often wrong. But from what I´ve heard about Mortal Kombat X is that it´s going to be more than just a new game in the Mortal Kombat game series. What´s new? Apparently there will be more fighting styles for one character, giving everyone his or her own favourite style to use against opponents. There was something familiar in another Mortal Kombat game where they also had weapons in a fighting style, but this seems to go a bit deeper and more unique. Of course these are just words at this point, nothing has been proven just yet!
