Sinful Sunday: Making certain someone doesn't get an achievement or trophy

I hate multiplayer achievements, they require not just your skill but also the right situation provided by other people. Of course other people aren't going to give you that achievement, I definitely don't expect nor want them to do that, but there are also people that make certain you can't get a certain achievement. These people are going to be you biggest enemy if you want to get multiplayer achievements and there's very little you can do about that.

Why do some people try to hinder you from getting an achievement?

I don't think people always try to be an asshole, sometimes you just bump into eachother and that will then usually end badly for one of the two. It's also your job to defeat other people online, ok maybe not your job but other people on your team will expect you to do that. But there are also people that will go out of their way just to make certain that you don't get a certain achievement. I discovered this when playing as Sombra in Overwatch. There's an achievement called hack the planet where you have to hack, an ability for Sombra, 15 people without dying in one match. You might think this is easy but considering that the hack can be interrupted and has an eight second cooldown you have plenty of time where you will be in trouble. Also keep in mind that there are a lot of heroes that can easily dispose of Sombra. For example McCree has his stun, Tracer can easily follow Sombra and kill her, Mei can freeze her, Junkrat can trap her and Roadhog can hook her for an easy kill. These are just some examples of people that can ruin your fun and progression towards the achievement. The moment I started hacking people I noticed how people on their team where completely ignoring the objective, the payload, and just chased me all over the map. Not just one or two people but five out of the six people made it their mission to kill me so I wouldn't get my 15 hacks in one life. This didn't just made it an easy win for my team, nobody was defending except one guy, but it also shows how sad some people are. I don't expect people to be ok with getting hacked but seriously chasing someone all over the map is kind of ridiculous with almost the entire team. Oh before I forget I actually did get the achievement, so no matter how hard some people try to be assholes sometimes you still get lucky!

But why do they do it?

Why are people going out of their way to make certain you don't get an achievement? If I would have to guess it's probably because this person doesn't have the achievement or can't get the achievement himself/herself and then doesn't want others to get it either. Maybe some people are just sad, they see someone trying to get an achievement and they see it as their mission to stop you or consider it as amusement to ruin your fun or progress towards an achievement. But I doubt this is always true, sometimes people just try to kill you because that's what they're supposed to do in the game and when they spot you then it would probably be a lot weirder if they ignored you. Sometimes there is also another reason. For example in Overwatch there is also an achievement for Symmetra where you have to teleport twenty people with your teleporter. This seems easy but keep in mind that people on the other team are alerted when you build a teleporter and they can destroy it. What truly motivates them is probably that they can earn an achievement if they destroy three teleporters in one match. But at the same time it also deals quite a blow to a team when you take out their teleporter so there is definitely also a tactical advantage to destroying a teleporter. I guess there are a lot of reasons why people do certain things, it doesn't always have to be a negative thing but I can see how some people might experience that. In the end we're probably all just trying to have fun and in competitive multiplayer usually one of the two teams is most likely not going to have as much fun as the other team.
