Overwatch celebration, almost a year of Overwatch!

I can hardly believe it, I've been playing this game for almost a year and I've had my ups and downs with this game. Often I have to take a break because the frustrations, mostly because of matchmaking or annoying players, are just too much and it's not fun to play a game when you're frustrated. But Overwatch is an impressive game, such a simple concept and yet there are thousands (maybe even millions) of people on the world that play the game and love it!

What happened in the first year of Overwatch?

A lot actually. I mean we've seen several events, some new heroes and also some new maps. The best thing is probably that it's all free, this isn't dlc you have to pay for but that you get when you own the game. First we got Ana, a hero that I like and sometimes I'm even decent with her but it's a high risk high reward type of hero that can be a lot of fun to play. After Ana we got the Summer Olympic games, a Summer event that introduced a new game mode called Lucio ball. This was a bit like the Rocket League but now everyone plays as the hero Lucio and you try to score in in the goal of the opponents. In a 3 vs 3 match that could get pretty intense! Then there was the Halloween event, my personal favourite so far and you got a cool new PvE game mode called Junkenstein's revenge. I love that one a lot and eventhough it could be frustrating with certain teams it was so satisfying to get the achievements for this event. It was great practice for me with Ana and Hanzo. What I also love about the Halloween event are the skins, I still use several Halloween skins up to this day because they look pretty cool! After that event we got Sombra, a hero we've been waiting for a long time and eventhough not everyone is excited about her abilities I actually like her a lot. It's so much fun to sneak around the enemy team and be that annoying person that can disrupt them before they can even attack the objective. Then there was the Winter Wonderland event, this introduced a new map Antarctica and a new game mode called Mei's snowball offensive. It was a pretty silly game mode but fun for some time. In the new year we first got a new map called Oasis, not really my favourite but it looks amazing! Quickly after that we got the lunar festival which celebrates the Chinese and Korean New Year. This event came pretty fast after the Winter event but it did introduce a new game mode that is still active  now in arcade, capture the flag. Not everyone is excited about this game mode but I think it's fun, unfortunately there are a lot of people that try to cheese their way to victory but a solid team should crush those attempts quite easily. A new hero appeared after that event, Orisa, which wasn't the hero everyone wanted, Doomfist. Orisa is still not very popular, especially not in ranked mode but I like to test her out a bit in arcade and quickplay. I think she has potential but still needs some work. Then we got the Uprising event, which was quite recently actually. This gave us another PvE game mode and it's even bigger than Junkenstein's revenge. What I really like about this game mode is that you can play with the original characters for the event or with all the other characters in the free for all heroes version. You got once again some really cool skins and I'm happy that I got all the skins I wanted, yes I'm looking at you Blackwatch Genji and McCree skins! Next week we get another event that is called the anniversary event, it will start on the 23rd of May and give players once again more skins and other things for their heroes if you get lucky with the loot boxes.

What else is new?

I saw a video of Jeff Kaplan, the main man for Overwatch, answering some questions and I learned that we can expect some new legendary skins for Hanzo and Zarya. We also learn more about Reaper, my favourite character in Overwatch, and get some more background info on other characters as well. There is also going to be a report system for console players, so if you deal with toxic players or people that just want to make your life miserable online you can report them to Blizzard instead of hoping that Microsoft or Sony are going to do anything about it. Things are still vague about the new hero but hopefully we learn more about that soon, I expect the new hero to show up in Summer (maybe around June or July?). Some say that the new hero, Doomfist most likely, will be showing up in the new event next week but I honestly doubt that. Look it would be cool if it would be so but I just don't expect that to happen. My guess is that we first get the event, that will last till the 12th of June, and then after that we get the new hero. But I would love to be wrong on this one, the sooner we get the new hero the better! I think that after a year of Overwatch a lot of players still love the game as much as they did on day one. It's a fun game and eventhough it can be frustrating I never regret buying it and still like to play it every now and then. Even if it's just for loot boxes, achievements and events. The most important thing is that you're having fun and usually that's a fact for me. Just yesterday I played as Hanzo and had one of my best games ever as him. Only died once and got so many kills. It's amazing how this game can surprise you and give you such a good feeling even a year later!
