The grind, is it worth it? (games)
In GTA Online you get double money and experience for biker missions, so lately I have been doing a lot of those missions. But the question is, is it really worth it? Well in a way it is because you get some good money and experience without having to play with other people. Unfortunately things get boring and repetitive really fast when you keep getting the same missions or when you keep getting missions that require you to have more people in your club, which means you'll have to wait some time for new missions. So is it worth it? I guess it really depends who you ask...
Grinding in games is stupid?
Some people do say that and I don't blame them. For someone who doesn't play games or doesn't like investing in games it probably is stupid. How can you put so many hours in a game just to get something that doesn't really matter? Well at the moment it seems like a good idea, but at the same time if it matters to you then that's enough reason to do some grinding in a game. I personally don't like wasting too much time in a game but there are things I'd like to get. For example with Overwatch I play a lot more matches during an event to hopefully get some good items. It's still a matter of luck with Overwatch, I mean I had this moment where I opened five loot boxes and in three of the five there were legendary skins. Two of those legendary skins were new skin from the Uprising event. As rare as that might be this is what motivates you to go on for the next loot box because who knows what you get int that one. But even in games when you know exactly what you get it can be tempting to grind. Especially during double experience and money times, those are moments where you want to grind to double your rewards. Some think this is a waste of time but what better time to grind than when you get the most for your (hard) work!
Why do people grind in games?
As I mentioned before it's usually for the rewards, I mean if it's just for leveling up then there are usually less people interested in that. Maybe for an achievement or trophy but that's also a reward so if it was for nothing at all then I bet not many people would do it. A lot of games give you rewards in a game for reaching the next level or improving your character. You get new items, have more customizable options, you get more money to buy other cool stuff or you have some need to have the character with the highest level (first). There are several reasons why people want to grind, perhaps it's for some people just something to keep them busy. It's nice when you can lose yourself in a game but I personally don't want to do that with every game. There are other things going on in the world and I don't want to miss out on that by just playing games all day every day.
So is grinding worth the trouble?
Well that's a very personal question, I can't answer that for you but you probably know if it's worth it or not. I think a lot of people don't want to put too much time into just one game unless they really love playing that game. But even then it's difficult for some people to play for hours and hours and putting the focus on leveling up and earning money. I can't keep that up for long, I get bored with a game really fast that way and that will ruin things for later experiences. But a temporarily grind, for example for an event or double experience moment, then it becomes a lot more interesting to me. I think that grinding is worth the trouble as long as the rewards are good. Nobody wants to spend days on a game and have nothing good to show for all that time you put in the game. At that point it does really seem like you're wasting time. But the most important part is that you're having fun, then even if the loot you get from the grinding isn't that good then you can at least say that you had fun. I think that's the biggest reward you can get in a game!
