YouTube adventures part -52- Taking a break?
Some YouTubers post videos every day, which isn't a bad thing but this isn't something that works for everyone. Especially when YouTube is more of a hobby instead of your job then I would suggest not to go crazy with the uploads. I know it's tempting to be this person online that has new videos every day for viewers, but how long can you keep that up? That's why I advice you to...
Take a break!
Whenever something is going on in my life that requires my attention I will step away from YouTube, even if it's just for a couple of days. This might surprise some people but people don't always like it when you spam videos, especially when the quality of the videos is already pretty low. So you prefer to put some more effort in the videos or just calm down a bit and just upload 3 videos a week. If those videos are going well you could increase with more videos, but if you decide to be this person that uploads every day then I wonder how well that will be received. Maybe some people will like it but it's better to start slow.
So you're probably wondering, why would you start slow? Well it's better to start slow because then the disappointment might be less big if things don't go so well. You see a lot of people that start with YouTube expect a lot of good things when they start with their channel. Maybe it's just hopeful thinking but that doesn't take the fact away that a lot of YouTubers start with a lot of energy and excitement, but the longer they're active on YouTube the more of this energy and excitement is lost. Wether that's because of disappointing results or too many videos at once. It will wear you down sooner or later. That's why I think it's smarter to take it easy, at least at first. This doesn't just give you more time for other things in your life but you can also see how things go. If people like your videos and want more then you can upload more, but if not a lot of people are interested you could see that as a sign not to increase the amount of videos. Because why would you put so much effort into something that isn't working out?
I'm not saying that you should give up, but just take it easy. It's better to take it easy and accept that things aren't going so well than ignoring the facts and keep uploading videos every day and not seeing any improvements. Taking it easy isn't giving up, it's more a wait and see game. Sometimes it takes time for people to find your channel and for people to subscribe, so don't feel bad if things don't go fast from the start. That hardly ever happens, unless a famous YouTuber starts a second channel.
Another reason why you should take it easy if there are things going on in your life that also require attention. For example someone you care about is sick or had an accident, you can just ignore them or be the friend or good family member and be there for them. I know that it can be addicting to keep uploading and hope for the best but you shouldn't throw your social life away! Especially not for something like YouTube, sure you might be succesful but even very succesful YouTubers sometimes take breaks because they also have a life next to YouTube. So don't be afraid to take a break, it doesn't just feel good but it's also good for you!
