YouTube adventures -53- Loyal fan or stalker?

It's nice when people like your videos and support you, it gives you motivation to keep going even at times when you don't really feel like making more videos. Some of these people you might even call your fans, but what if this fan is more like a stalker? Showing up in every game you play, always in the same match as you are and constantly around you. Is that ok or should you say something? The real question is...

Is this a fan or a stalker?

When you have a small channel like me then you don't have this problem, I'm not saying that it couldn't happen but the chance is much smaller. But when I watch videos of popular YouTubers with big channels then you can often see people recognizing the YouTuber, some will be super talkative and others will spam the chat with text messages. Some really mean well, they're just excited to meet a YouTuber and want to play the game with them. Unfortunately some fans are so star struck or they're just utter pricks that they start to annoy the YouTuber and will most likely ruin it for everyone else in that match.

There is nothing wrong with talking to the YouTuber, I think it would be a lot weirder if everyone would ignore him or her, but there is talking to someone and there is harassing someone. I think most YouTubers keep the videos with really annoying people out of their upload list but I've seen videos where things got ugly. At first they were friendly but that soon turned into something nasty where they constantly wanted the attention of the YouTuber and got upset that they didn't get that. It's weird how some people don't know how to behave when they're near someone they like, but being a douchebag will most likely not work in your favour!

The thing is that this random encounter with a YouTuber can be a once in a lifetime experience but don't see that as a reason to go crazy. Just be cool and he or she will most likely consider you as cool, so if you're hoping to play more often with this YouTuber then staying cool will work out more in your favour than going crazy. Also asking for him or her to be your friend after just playing one game together is most likely not going to work out. It's not that he or she thinks you're not worth it but you should keep in mind that this will probably happen a lot. A lot of people want to be his or her friend and you asking to be his or her friend is just one more on the pile of friend invites. Don't take it personal, they are probably leading a bit different life and have a different experience with playing games than you.

So what is the difference between a loyal fan and a stalker? Well first of all it's how you present yourself. If you go super crazy with excitement then they probably think you're a bit weird but still a fan, but if you keep showing up in every match they play then stalker seems more likely. I doubt anyone likes having a stalker so getting blocked and ignored is probably something you'll have to deal with when you keep harassing the YouTuber. You can't make someone like you or make someone your friend by just constantly harassing this person, it will most likely have the opposite effect! There is nothing wrong with saying that you're a fan, but act like a fan and not like some creepy stalker!
