Who finishes games these days?
I have an unwritten rule when I play games, I always try to finish the game I'm playing at the moment before I start with a new game. Some exceptions are multiplayer games, but that's because multiplayer games are often just matches you play against other people and you're not really following a story. Whenever I get an achievement now for finishing the story I notice the percentage of people that have also finished the game and often this is much lower than I expected. So does this mean that not a lot of people finish games or they just take forever to beat a game?
Finishing a game is a waste of time?
I'm actually not surprised if some people feel that way. They don't care about achievements/trophies, they don't care about the story enough to sit through hours and hours of gameplay to see how it ends and apparently they don't care enough about the game to keep playing it longer than a day or two. I think the biggest problem for some people is that there is always another game coming out and that some people are just easily distracted. Why play the game you're playing right now when you can play a completely new game? I guess that makes sense to some people, but not to me. I was waiting with playing Final Fantasy XV because I was still busy playing the Witcher 3, it's not that I didn't want to play Final Fantasy XV but I first want to beat the game I'm playing otherwise I mix two completely different stories and controls which can be quite confusing and not really improving my love for either game. It's better to enjoy the game you're playing right now than to jump into another game, because then you have to get used to those controls and you will lose touch with the story in the game you were playing.
Why do a lot of people stop playing certain games?
I think some people don't like the game they're playing, others just prefer to play other games first and there are some who just can't be bothered to invest more than a couple of days in one game. As weird as it might sound but some people prefer to do other things, to play different games more often. Which means that they can't invest too much time in one game at once, so big games like Dragon Age Inquisition, Mass Effect Andromeda and the Witcher 3 just take too long for some people. You can see the percentage in achievements of how many people made it to a certain point in the game, often the first couple of hours are well presented with people getting those achievements but what about after ten hours of gameplay or twenty? Then there are a lot less people that actually got those achievements. To be honest I will probably never understand why people can't finish games but I do know that it's a shame, it's really worth putting some effort in some games. Well I'm not telling what you should do with your time but some games are worth putting a lot of time in, but I can see why it's tempting to jump to new games. It keeps things fresh and exciting, while playing the same game for more than a week can get repetitive and boring. This is why it's important to not play non stop, take breaks and maybe switch to some multiplayer games, that keeps things fresh and fun for a lot of people!
